Amitabha Buddha's discourse:
The present moment is a state of time; each present moment combines to form the long river of time.
The formation of accumulated lifetimes is the continuous extension of each present moment to this day,
and it continues to extend without end.
The present moment is priceless because it passes in an instant and never returns.
From ancient times to the present, no two moments have been the same,
because once the time of the present moment passes, it immediately becomes the past, and no amount of wealth can buy it back.
Therefore, as years increase, the past continues to lengthen,
the present constantly unfolds, and the future, once it passes through the present, instantly becomes the past.
People and beings spend their minutes, hours, and days in this cycle,
day after day, year after year, experiencing the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death,
until death ends this life.
In every present moment, it is possible for thoughts to continue without interruption.
These thoughts differ according to the heart:
Are they delusion, discrimination, and attachment?
Are they memories of past joys and sorrows, or events of happiness, anger, grief, and that have occurred?
Are they memories or recitations of various things learned in the world?
Are they thoughts and actions based on Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt, or on wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep?
Are they pauses, remaining in the past, causing the present moment to vanish instantly,
while impermanence may occur at any time?
Or are they diligent practice in prostrations, chanting Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras?
Are they serving the masses, providing convenience to the masses, extensively cultivating and merits, and increasing virtue,
so that the masses feel joy in their hearts?
Are they actively participating in saving beings, and widely promoting Namo Amituofo and the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss?
Are they thoughts of the Buddha in every moment, chant one Buddha's name to the end?
These physical actions, speech, and thoughts all take place in the present moment.
How should children spend their present moments?
Regardless of the present moment, having the Buddha in the heart, in the thoughts, and in the actions,
and being able to carry this out continuously, is great cultivation.
If it is carried out intermittently, one must be able to raise one's awareness in the present moment.
When the heart, thoughts, and actions are all the Buddha, and one does not depart from the Buddha, one understands that the present moment is priceless,
eventually the heart is as the Buddha-heart, seeing the Buddha-heart; every thought is the Buddha, and the Buddha-vow is fulfilled;
actions are as the Buddha-actions, entering into Buddha-actions.
This is a child of the Buddha following the Buddha's actions!
