Teachings by the Teacher. Recorded and transcribed by ’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe. 15 May 2026. Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju: People often place gains and losses, good and bad, right and wrong on the two sides of a scale. [[BLOCK_0]] If there is more that benefits oneself, it is considered a gain, and there is happiness; if there is more harm and less benefit, it is considered a loss, and there is suffering. If there is more good than bad for oneself, there is happiness; if there is more bad than good, there is injury. [[BLOCK_1]] If one is right, is it a matter of being self-righteous and unforgiving, or is it a matter of having a clear conscience, letting go, and not clinging? If one is wrong, can one admit the mistake and change your ways, or does one insist on being right and allow the error to continue? [[BLOCK_2]] For a practitioner, how one handles these people and matters—regardless of which it is—all of the above are states of mental fluctuation and the manifestation of . [[BLOCK_3]] For Buddha or , patriarchs and venerable masters, Those who have realised their true nature, or those who save beings, what is weighed on the two sides of the scale is: how much , Wisdom (Prajna), mind-capacity, and tolerance one possesses. Whatever is lacking must be added immediately, and one can never have too much. What is weighed on the two sides of the scale is: how to act in a way that is truly helpful to beings, and can help beings leave suffering behind and gain happiness. Whatever is lacking must be filled in quickly; to save one being is to save one being. [[BLOCK_4]] Can matters and principles be balanced without bias? In acceptance and tolerance, is there still a sense of 'self' that makes them insufficient? Are and the ability to let go unable to manifest because of comparison and the overshadowing of gains and losses? [[BLOCK_5]] If one can be selfless and have , then on the two sides of the scale, regardless of what they are, they are equal, with no distinction of weight, all are beings to be saved, and all should be saved. [[BLOCK_6]] If there are often instances of imbalance on the two sides of the scale, it is because there are thoughts and fluctuations. Practitioners should diligently chant Buddha's name, chant Buddha's name with a calm heart and peaceful spirit, chant Buddha's name with retracted inwards, chant Buddha's name step by step, chanting 24/7 without interruption, chanting straight ahead, then the two sides of the scale will have no distinction of high or low, and will naturally be equal, this is when one's practice has achieved spiritual success in mental balance and meditative concentration.
