Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:
Children have high malleability because my character has not yet formed,
due to trust and reliance on others, I easily accept the words and teachings of others,
and can develop towards the character being shaped.
A child who is compliant, polite, respectful of others, and possesses ,
is one whose character has been guided and cultivated bit by bit from a young age by parents or caregivers.
As I grow, my personality becomes increasingly distinct, and manifests and proceeds from within.
As most people age and gain social experience,
their personality becomes more rigid and difficult to change, due to the formation and persistence of ego-attachment, ego-views, and self-protection,
which are part of karma.
Therefore, the older one gets, the more difficult it is to change one's personality through practice, resulting in limited
progress in practice.
However, those who know suffering and have endured suffering, in order to leave suffering behind and even help other beings leave suffering behind,
can truly "see through" and "let go", and let go of the "self", and thus be able to change their personality.
Letting go of the "self" means letting go of the various roles and relationships brought about by this body.
Let go of views, methods, subjectivity, and attachment, and follow the .
In serving others and getting along harmoniously, grind away one's own personality.
Through constant changing of personality and purification, self-effort in diligent practice, and Buddha's ,
one can see progress in practice and the growth of the innate abilities of .
In the process of constantly letting go of the "self" and changing one's personality,
one can see the inherent Goodness, compassion, and Wisdom (Prajna) within the heart.
By chanting one Buddha's name to the end, without mixing in other thoughts, and with every thought being pure,
one can dilute the personality until it is completely gone.
One can follow the teachings and change one's personality until not a trace of it remains.
Those who can follow the above methods will surely achieve spiritual success in their practice.
