Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:
Faith, understanding, practice, and realisation are the stages of learning the Buddha’s teachings;
while faith, vows, and practice are the for being reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
"Faith" and "practice" are essential points that must be possessed in both aspects,
because, in learning the Buddha’s teachings, having faith in the Buddha is the primary condition.
Through "understanding" and "practice," one can change one's Body, Speech, and Mind,
and only then can one obtain the true benefits of the .
As the fourfold assembly (monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen) already knows the importance of changing personality traits, if one can truly put this into practice,
one's practice will surely progress.
In practice, it is even more necessary to put it into actual practice.
Only when one's skills in chanting the Buddha's name are successful can one have the opportunity to become an awakened being and be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Without practice, it is like discussing military strategy on paper; there is no progress,
one merely adds Buddhist terminology to one's .
Even if one lacks profound knowledge of the Buddha’s teachings, if one can practise step by step,
the benefits of the Dharma will be even more magnificent.
If one can advance in both understanding and practice, having a foundation of understanding can help "practice" become more firm,
without doubt or obstruction, and one can more easily attain realisation through understanding and practice,
thereby obtaining actual benefits from the Buddha’s teachings one has learned,
and through the three studies of , meditative concentration, and wisdom, one can attain meditative concentration, open wisdom, and gain liberation,
practising the Six Perfections to perfection and attaining Buddhahood.
In chanting one Buddha's name to the end,
the Six Perfections and the three studies of Precepts, meditative concentration, and wisdom are cultivated simultaneously,
allowing one to receive the blessing and support of the Buddha, enabling one's practice to be accomplished sooner,
following the Buddha in the act of saving beings, and fulfilling one's vow to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
