Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:
Faith, understanding, practice, and realisation are the sequence of learning the Buddha’s teachings;
while faith, vows, and practice are the for being reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss.
"Faith" and "practice" are essential points that must be possessed in both aspects,
because in learning the Buddha’s teachings, having faith in the Buddha is the primary condition.
Through "understanding" and "practice," one can bring about changes in Body, Speech, and Mind,
and only then can one obtain the true benefits of the .
If the fourfold assembly already knows the importance of changing personality traits, and if they can put it into actual practice,
their practice will surely progress.
In Pure Land practice, it is even more necessary to put it into actual practice,
only when one’s skills in chanting the Buddha’s name are successful will there be an opportunity to become an awakened being and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Without practice, it is like discussing military strategy on paper; there will be no progress,
and one will merely be adding Buddhist terminology to one’s conceptual thoughts.
If one can put them into actual practice step by step,
the benefits of the Dharma gained from learning will be even more magnificent.
If one can advance in both understanding and practice, having a foundation of understanding can help make "practice" more steadfast,
without doubt or obstruction, and one will be better able to attain realisation through understanding and practice.
One will then be able to obtain actual benefits from the Buddha’s teachings one has learned,
and within the three studies of , meditative concentration, and wisdom, one will be able to attain meditative concentration, open up wisdom, and achieve liberation.
By practising the Six Perfections, one can perfect them and attain Buddhahood.
In the process of chanting one Buddha's name to the end,
the Six Perfections and the three studies of Precepts, meditative concentration, and wisdom are cultivated simultaneously,
and one can receive the support of the Buddha’s power, allowing one’s practice to be accomplished sooner,
following the Buddha in the act of saving beings, and fulfilling the wish to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
