Teacher Xia Lianju’s teachings:
The thousands of sutras and treatises of the Buddha’s teachings all point to the fact that "all dharmas are mind-only" and "the heart can give rise to all dharmas."
The ten Realms are manifested by the heart; this is what is meant by "all dharmas return to the heart."
The heart is so important, which is why practice must begin by putting in the work on the heart.
By cultivating the heart, both and spirit can be transformed; this is the importance of the heart.
If one has a "heart," it is the heart of an ordinary person caught in reincarnation.
There are many kinds of hearts:
A heart of , a heart of ,
A good heart, an evil heart, a kind heart, a bad heart, a suspicious heart, a worried heart, a heart of greed, a heart of anger, a heart of delusion,
A heart of arrogance, a heart of doubt, and so on. There are too many types of hearts.
Those who have such a heart exist alongside impermanence and various personality traits;
such practitioners cannot realise their true nature.
If one is "without a heart"—where the heart is empty and void of anything, yet can give rise to all dharmas—
this is what is called "the heart can give rise to all dharmas," and one can freely and naturally operate all kinds of dharmas.
Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and those who have realised their true nature can be their own masters because their heart is governed by their true self; they can master their body and spirit,
and are those whose body, heart, and spirit are harmonious and unified.
Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and those who have realised their true nature clearly understand the laws of and cause and effect; they know what should be done and what should not be done;
they understand how certain actions lead to falling into the three evil paths of hells, hungry ghosts, and animals;
how certain actions lead to entering the three good paths of humans, heavenly beings, and asuras.
They understand the importance of the Universal Principles, Truth, and the Right Path, and they follow them,
consequently, they do not commit evil, do not commit transgressions, and their heart is at peace.
Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and ancestral masters wish to tell people about these important matters,
but whether people can come to know them depends on their Dharma affinity.
If their Dharma affinity is matured, they will be able to believe, accept the teachings, listen, and uphold them,
and thus it is easy to achieve spiritual success in their practice;
if those whose Dharma affinity is not yet matured do not believe, find it difficult to accept the teachings, fail to listen, and even slander them,
then do not speak of it further or remain silent, so as to avoid causing them to hear the words and commit verbal karma.
All dharmas return to the heart; cultivate this heart well.
By chanting to the end, purifying the body, heart, and spirit, and elevating the quality of one's spirit,
while practising the (Discipline), Concentration, and Wisdom, and while performing the Six Perfections,
one can allow the heart of wisdom and Prajna wisdom to be revealed, and realise one's true nature sooner.
