Teachings by the Teacher. Recorded and transcribed by ’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe. 9 May 2026. Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju: People often experience afflictions due to being constrained, being demanded of, or giving more than they receive, and thus create and suffer. Those who hold onto their own views find it difficult to listen to the advice of others, and thus lose the opportunity to change your ways, dissolve karma, and reduce their sins. [[BLOCK_0]] People often think that having their physical and mental needs met is equivalent to attaining liberation and freedom. In reality, if one has not transformed karma, all of this is still occurring within the progression of karma. Even if one is practising, one still suffers from birth, aging, sickness, and death, and remains a being in the six realms of rebirth. [[BLOCK_1]] True liberation and freedom require one to recognise that the essence of life is suffering, to know the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, and the suffering of being unable to take charge. Only those who desire to leave suffering behind and resolve suffering can put in the work to attain liberation from birth and death and achieve freedom. [[BLOCK_2]] People often forget suffering; even after experiencing the physical suffering of aging and sickness, especially the pain brought about by their own personality traits, they easily forget the suffering once they have recovered. After some time, when their personality traits manifest again, they repeat the same mistakes and create negative karma. In this endless cycle, how can one escape the suffering of being pressed by for debt and the suffering of the six realms of rebirth? [[BLOCK_3]] Practitioners must be cautious and careful in every action they take, every word they speak, every glance, and every movement, especially in their subtle mental notes. Every thought and intention creates karma and binds the heart, preventing it from attaining liberation and freedom. No matter where you go or what kind of life you lead, this situation exists. [[BLOCK_4]] True liberation and freedom must be worked on from the heart. First, you must change personality traits. If you do not change personality traits, your body and mind will easily be disturbed by physical changes, the words and actions of others, which will hinder your practice and even lead to creating karma, taking you further away from realising your true nature. Therefore, those who can subdue their own personality traits, change them until they are selfless and without ego, gentle, straightforward, and compliant with all beings, can attain liberation and freedom. [[BLOCK_5]] Those who are diligent in their practice, transform karma, and realise their true nature can attain liberation and freedom. [[BLOCK_6]] Those who chant one Buddha's name to the end, make the vow to chant Buddha's name to be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss and have their wishes fulfilled, can attain liberation and freedom. [[BLOCK_7]] Those who practise Discipline () and have meditative concentration, whose wisdom is revealed, who can understand both phenomena and principles, who do not form negative karmic ties with others, who cultivate extensive good karmic ties, who serve the masses, who keep and in their hearts, and who practise Generosity (Giving) and letting go, can attain liberation and freedom.
