"If, upon hearing my name, after the end of life, one is born into a noble family, with all Six Roots intact."
This is from the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra),
one of the Forty-eight Great Vows made by Namo Amituofo: the Vow of Receiving upon Hearing the Name.
If someone hears the name of Namo Amituofo and, after the end of life, is born into a noble family,
a family of wealth and virtue, with all Six Roots intact.
This is the great and great vow in action of Namo Amituofo.
If someone hears the name of Namo Amituofo and, although they have not yet made a vow to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, is willing to chant the Buddha’s name,
they can also receive this magnificent benefit of the .
Namo Amituofo’s Great Vow benefits immeasurable and boundless beings.
With the good roots of chanting the Buddha’s name in this life, one will still have the opportunity to chant the Buddha’s name and be saved when reborn in the human world in the future.
Once the sacred name of Namo Amituofo enters the ear, it becomes a seed for the Path forever, and eventually, there will be an opportunity to receive salvation.
After the end of life for an ordinary person, where will their spirit be reborn?
Apart from "receiving retribution according to ," it also depends on the final thought before the end of life,
as the saying goes, "the strongest karma pulls first," and the spirit
will be reborn in a place corresponding to this thought.
This is a natural phenomenon and cannot be changed by any human or external force.
It may be as a life form in the physical world—wishing to be as free as the wind, mountains & rivers—or as a crawling or flying creature;
or it may be drawn to the halls of the King of Hell for judgment, which then determines the place of rebirth.
However, beings can, through practice, self-cultivation, and following Ethics and Morality while alive,
elevate the quality of their spirit.
This helps the spirit, after the end of life, to enter the place one wishes to go,
and when the spirit leaves , it will naturally ascend to the heavenly realm corresponding to its spiritual quality,
or be reborn in the place where the next life resides.
These situations,
are all instances where one can influence the destination of the spirit in the next life through "wise practice" while alive.
This is how a wise person decides the "the great matter of rebirth in the West" for themselves, rather than letting it be determined by karma and fate,
so that there are no attachments after the end of life.
One takes away no wealth or money, but karma follows the body.
Whether one’s actions in this life are good karma or negative karma, the place of rebirth according to that will differ.
The destination of the spirit after the end of life is often not within one's own control,
therefore, while alive, one should practise Generosity (Giving) and offerings extensively to cultivate fields of merit, which serve as provisions for the destination of the next life.
For the , the place one seeks to be reborn in is the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss; this is an unchanging vow.
To achieve this vow, one should believe in, accept, and uphold the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the Mahayana, Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Enlightenment Sutra),
which is the guide for rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
