Words of Namo Amituofo:
To "not fall short" means not to have deficiencies, to have failed to act, or to have violated the , incurred losses, or fallen into insufficiency.
Forgiving oneself is a habitual tendency of people; it is easy to commit minor transgressions and then forgive oneself.
If one does not turn back to the right path and continues to act in this way, this is to have fallen short.
In practice, this means violating regulations or the Precepts; failing to correct minor faults leads to major transgressions.
Regarding the teachings of Namo Amituofo, the instructions of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and the exhortations of Practitioner Su, if the fourfold assembly has done what was emphasised repeatedly but failed to complete it, or has not paid attention, or has failed to be careful and cautious, repeating the same mistakes, then one has fallen short.
Consequently, this leads to becoming drowsy and entering other spaces, or experiencing physical ageing, illness, or changes in one's physical form and appearance.
When this happens, know that your practice has fallen short; you must quickly change your ways and adjust your heart.
If you wish to change your ways, adjust your heart, make up for where you have fallen short, and not repeat the mistakes,
the most excellent method is to be diligent in your daily practice.
Whether prostrating, chanting the Buddha's name, or reciting the Sutras, you must not fall short.
And chant one Buddha's name to the end.
If you are determined to act in this way, you will surely receive the Buddha's , and your practice will progress.
Practitioners of the must follow the teachings and faithfully accept and uphold the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra).
Those who can do this and not fall short will surely be a model for all practitioners.
This person, at the place where Namo Amituofo truly dwells—the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia—is Practitioner Su.
The fourfold assembly should emulate him so that they may soon achieve success in their practice, and together with Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su, save boundless beings to leave suffering behind and attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land, and teach those who come after: to spread the Pure Land teachings in this present moment and into the future.
