A letter from Hsu Heng-Tzu to all the people of Taiwan, the people of Yunlin County, her colleagues, family, students, dear friends, and the good partners who have fought side-by-side with her along the way:
Hello everyone, I am Teacher Hsu in your eyes. Do you still remember me? I am Hsu Heng-Tzu. Perhaps some people in our Yunlin County still know this name! I cannot say that I am a famous person, or particularly wealthy or influential. I think I am only known to some people because of the things I encountered in this life, and that is all.
Hahaha! I was once such an optimistic and cheerful person. Now that I have arrived here, although I have suffered, after coming to the , I am living a very cheerful and joyful life, even better than before!
Now, as a spirit, I am here to speak with all of you. I wonder how everyone in the human world, and my family, have been doing during this time?
I have now attained liberation. I am no longer the person I was before death, nor am I the person I was in my old age. I, Hsu Heng-Tzu, am now communicating with you as a spirit from the Western -Nature Land of the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia.
I always thought that my life was very wonderful. Throughout my life, with the support and encouragement of everyone, we helped each other and worked together to do our best, making life better. I remember these days very deeply and feel very joyful. Whether it was when I was a teacher, or later when I managed cable television, or when I was involved in politics, as well as various extracurricular and church activities, all of these allowed me to come into contact with many people and things, and I gained a lot of valuable life experience.
I used to treasure these experiences as if they were precious jewels, but later I realised that all of this was an illusion. After death, I discovered that there was nothing left. Memories are just things for people in the human world to reminisce about; in the end, it is all nothing. Everyone held a memorial service for me and sang hymns, but you did not know that at the time, I was actually suffering in the very painful hells.
I only found out about these things later. But I have suffered, and I have learned what I should and should not do; this can also be considered a form of growth. I now take all the suffering I experienced before very lightly and no longer dwell on the fact that I went to hell. I originally thought this would be very difficult to talk about, but I finally said it last time. In this interview, I said it early on, and you can slowly and carefully look at my story.
My family, my son and daughter, you are all shining in your respective fields. Mother is happy for you, but at the same time, I am worried, because what you are doing now, is it not what I did before? I did the same things before, and everyone thought I was a good person, yet I went to hell to suffer retribution. I believe that perhaps you will walk the same path as I did, which is why I am writing this letter with such earnest advice today.
I hope this letter and the subsequent interview can reach you, so that you know your mother, Hsu Heng-Tzu, has a message from the spiritual realms, which is a message from the Western Dharma-Nature Land of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. I want to pass this message on to you, let you see my true story, and know that the journey I have taken since my death has not been easy.
Now that I have come to the Western Dharma-Nature Land, this pure, dignified, and beautiful land, my heart is much more at peace. I also know that only this path can lead me to a truly ultimate and perfect place, which is the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss established by . Although you cannot believe all of this yet, because our family does not believe in Buddhism, I hope you can put aside your previous prejudices and listen to my story.
If you have any questions or want to know more, you can search for the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre online at any time, or you can call or leave a message for them. Everyone at the temple will surely give my children and everyone who knows me a satisfactory answer; this is the of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su.
I am doing very well in front of the Buddha now, so please do not worry. You do not need to think about anything for Mother, and you do not need to remember me too much; just remember my life story, as that is the more important thing. I hope this manuscript can be handed to you, give you different inspiration for your life, and let you know that there is another path to take. I think this is still a very important thing at the moment.
Alright, this letter ends here, and I will not say too much. Everyone, please continue to read what is said in the interview.
Gratitude to Namo Amituofo, gratitude to Practitioner Su, and gratitude to everyone.

Chairperson of Taiwan Chia-Lien Cable TV Hsu Heng-Tzu

Hsu Heng-Tzu:
Namo Amituofo, my name is Hsu Heng-Tzu. Everyone affectionately calls me Teacher Hsu, and this is the title that has run through my life and that everyone is accustomed to. Here, I also sincerely thank everyone who supported and helped me in the past, especially those in Yunlin County who have come into contact with me. I am grateful that you can see this letter. I sincerely hope that everything I express here today can reach your ears, letting you know my current situation.
Although I have left the human world, after I came to this place called the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I realised that the spirit is never born and never dies, and it can communicate with everyone here in a spiritual way. This matter surprised me very much; it is truly very special. I used to be a Christian, and I never thought that I would come to a Buddha-land. Now, I am receiving the teachings of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su here, and my heart is filled with Dharma .
I am still as cheerful and optimistic as before, liking to laugh, and I do not have many afflictions. Now, I am living a more fulfilling life than before, and my wisdom has increased quite a bit; one could say I have been reborn. You might not be able to imagine what I am like now. The image I gave everyone before was that of Teacher Hsu, who was always bringing joy to everyone. Today, I can still bring joy to everyone, and what I want to share with you here is my experience and changes in the few days I have been in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. These changes are too important to me, more important and profound than everything I experienced in my eighty-five years of life, and the cruel experience of going to hell to suffer retribution after death.
Do not be shocked, everyone. How could such a good person as me go to hell? I know that everyone cannot accept this fact, but please believe what I am saying now; this is true, and some things are indeed like this. I have left the human world for more than a year, and I assume everyone in the human world is still living a good life. However, I have indeed suffered torture during this year or more, and I never thought it would be so painful. I have always been very confused as to why this happened, why it was me, and why I was sent to hell? We Christians also believe in heaven and hell, but I thought that with my firm faith and my life principles of doing good and giving, why would I still have to go to hell to suffer retribution? I could not understand it at all, and I cried very sadly and painfully in hell, because all of this was not something I could understand.
After listening to the sutras and hearing the Dharma in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I gradually understood many principles. Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su not only saved my soul and allowed me to stop suffering, but also allowed me to truly understand the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, so that my heart could truly be at peace and I could live a real life, rather than a painful and illusory one. The reason I say it was an illusory life is because I have truly seen clearly here that no matter how one lives for these few decades, it is actually illusory. A person's life is like a dream; the good and the bad pass and are gone. But the created must still be repaid; this is the Universal Principle.
In the past, we Christians did not think so much; there was only the difference between heaven and hell. Therefore, I was very certain that I would definitely go to the Heavenly Father's Kingdom, and my children thought the same. Let me tell you all honestly, those of us who operate in this industry, although our hearts are not bad, we operate television, internet, and other related industries, and we have carried these industries forward. Although we did not broadcast some very bad or harmful content for social development, after operating in it for decades, we certainly broadcasted various news or programs, including good, bad, and evil ones. If this violates the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, causing people to have various changes in their nature/mind, we leaders must also bear a certain responsibility. This is the Universal Principle; it cannot be escaped, and everything cannot escape the laws of karma and cause and effect.
Back then, my husband was the magistrate of Yunlin County. Through this opportunity, after I worked as a teacher, I took over and managed the then-Chia-Lien Cable TV, which was a television station in Yunlin County. Later, my daughter and I operated it together and carried it forward, and it was merged into the famous Taiwan Digital Optical Technology Group. This merger was large in scale, integrating television stations in various counties and cities in central Taiwan, exerting greater influence.
Why do I say that the television industry is the very act of creating evil once you are involved in it? I have already mentioned it just now: once the programs broadcast on television violate morality, we must also bear the karma. Therefore, it can be known that the local television programs or various industries we have promoted over the years have, to a greater or lesser extent, caused people to have various emotions or , and some of the image content easily arouses people's greed, and even makes people fall into it, unable to extricate themselves. The wider the range of broadcasting, the more people are affected, and the deeper the karma we create; this is a natural principle.
At that time, I really wanted to do this industry better. Therefore, in my deliberations, it was inevitable that there was a lot of selfishness, thinking about myself and my family, etc. This looks like a very normal thing in society; which chairperson does not think about their own company? But in it, we had already used our original status in Yunlin County to bring this matter under our own banner to do. It can be seen that we were already carrying a selfishness of hoping that we and our family members could benefit a little more.
In this life, in my involvement in government affairs, handling my own duties, and participating in various strategies and planning for my husband's duties, there was indeed a lot of selfishness. In order to protect my family and to protect the interests of the people of a region, there were always things that happened that excluded others and harmed others, whether it was done openly or secretly. These behaviours were also the reason I went to hell. Many of these things were not what I deliberately did, but intentionally or unintentionally, I always allowed such things to happen, which led to harm to others.
Yes, I entered the "heart-gouging hell," because what I influenced was people's hearts, so it was inevitable that I had to report to the heart-gouging hell. Although the time for this retribution was not long, the pain it brought me is still very deeply remembered. I have spent three or four days in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, but I always feel that I have spent a very, very long time here, because I have seen too many things that I have never seen before, so I am very grateful and also very emotional.
I know that I must quickly let my family, our company, and all the employees at the television station know about this, so that everyone can learn the story of me, Hsu Heng-Tzu. There are many people in the Yunlin area who know me, and those who have had deep interactions with me have a very profound impression of me.
If I can use this influence of mine to help them even after my death, then going to hell is well worth it; I do not feel aggrieved at all. If going to hell can awaken them and let many people know that they must repent and turn towards goodness, and follow the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way taught by Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, then everyone will have the opportunity to learn the Buddha’s teachings. Even the elderly could reach a state where they do not grow old, not get sick, and the spirit does not die—how wonderful that would be!
Our Christianity has never spoken so profoundly. Although we believe that the spirit never dies, the Heaven we can reach does not truly allow us to attain eternal life, because Heaven is, after all, still within the heavenly realm and is part of the six realms of rebirth. Therefore, no matter how long one stays in Heaven, there will always come a day when one must be reincarnated.
These are all things I have learned in the Western Land of Dharma Nature. I have also learned what the six realms of rebirth are and the truth that the laws of karma and cause and effect are not empty. I was indeed a devout Christian all my life, and I upheld Christian teachings, being generous and building good affinities with many. The good deeds I did will not be in vain, but I must wait until after I have undergone my retribution before I can enjoy the ; this is what I know now.
Today, in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I still possess some of my past characteristics, such as being round and dignified, but to be honest, I look much, much better than before. Now I do not grow old at all; I have become very young and very pure, and the temperament radiating from within my heart is completely different.
People in Yunlin know far too little about this world of the Western Land of Dharma Nature. But do you know that in Taiwan, there is a person called Practitioner Su, who once realise his true nature and attain Buddhahood in Taiwan? Over the past thirty years, he has helped countless beings leave suffering and gain happiness, and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is a true story. With the help of Namo Amituofo, Practitioner Su also established the Western Land of Dharma Nature, giving many of us deceased spirits—whether we were wandering in space, suffering retribution in hell, or even souls from higher-level worlds—a place to rely upon. Now that I have come to the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I truly have no regrets.
I used to have many expectations about the world after death, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that nothing is ever completely satisfactory. Throughout my life, I was a good mother, a good wife, and a good leader in the eyes of everyone, and I did everything in a way that left everyone truly convinced. I also upheld a righteous heart, helping many disadvantaged groups and students. Many students who benefited from me felt deep mourning over my passing, and I am very touched by this.
Having walked through life, I have now let go of all the good and bad experiences. In the past, I might have felt happy or moved by them, with all sorts of thoughts and emotions involved; when bad things happened, there would be a thorn in my heart, and although I did not speak of it openly, it remained within. Like most people, I am an ordinary person of flesh and blood, not as perfect as everyone imagined.
However, all the good I did was to tell everyone: as long as it benefits others, it is a good deed; not thinking for oneself is a good deed. I have understood this principle clearly here in the Western Land of Dharma Nature.
Looking back, I know that when I did good deeds, there were indeed benevolent spirits protecting me. But while doing good, I still thought for myself—calculating every little thing for my own sake, or thinking about fame, status, or image—which meant that I had "broken my cultivation." These good deeds could only bring a little bit of blessings, because once the word "I" is mixed into a good deed, it is no longer a truly good deed, nor is it purely good anymore.
Everything said in the Buddha’s teachings is very transparent and easy to understand. I finally know why people must be selfless; only by truly letting go of oneself and living for all beings can one be one's true self. Otherwise, looking around, there are very few people in the world who can be the master of themselves, unless you realise your true nature and attain Buddhahood, like Practitioner Su, who has great cultivation—only then can one truly be the master. For example, in our own lives, when we leave or when we get sick, these are not things we can control. But Practitioner Su is different. After Practitioner Su attained Buddhahood, his could come and go freely from the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, going wherever he wished to save beings without any restrictions. Such a life is truly perfect, and only then can one truly save all suffering beings, rather than just being like us ordinary people, who can only care for the groups around us or those we know, but have no way to transmit messages to all the spirit realm beings we cannot see.
At the end of my life, I did indeed get sick, which was because I also had areas where I did not do well. Fortunately, I did not suffer for long before I left the human world. Today, more than a year later, being able to share all this with everyone in such a wonderful Buddha-land shows that this journey was not in vain.
However, if every single thing is laden with karma, then the warning to everyone is very important. You may have heard me say a lot of things without knowing what my main point is, or perhaps my ability to express myself is indeed not good. In any case, I hope that everyone who sees this letter can understand: Buddhist education is the best education in the universe. Because it teaches everyone the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, allowing everyone to avoid sickness, worries, and troubles—it is just that simple to learn the Buddha’s teachings. Like Practitioner Su at that time, his heart in learning the Buddha’s teachings was so firm and simple, without any thought for himself, only hoping to learn the true education and implement it in life, step by step, so that he could pave the way for his own liberation and help more beings.
This is why, after Practitioner Su received this great Dharma of Namo Amituofo and came to know the Infinite Life Sutra, he decided to exhaust his wealth and very actively promote all of this. From his youth to his old age, Practitioner Su's heart has remained the same: he hopes to spread good things so that everyone can know about them. When he obtains a treasure, he shares it vigorously; when he obtains two treasures, he also shares them vigorously. This is all very important information that can help people stay away from birth, aging, sickness, and death, move towards ultimate liberation, and know Namo Amituofo so they can be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is precisely because of this heart and this incomparably vast strength and breadth of mind that Practitioner Su has been able to achieve what he has today.
Practitioner Su does not only save Taiwanese people, but also Chinese people, people all over the world, and even the spirit realm beings that people cannot see with their physical eyes. In the overlapping layers of space, the countless beings and demon crowds are all objects of the Buddhas' salvation. My children, you may feel that you cannot truly understand what I have said today. This is normal; we have never been exposed to such profound, transparent, and heart-piercing education before. This is a very complete education, teaching everyone not to have selfish desires and to truly live for all beings.
You might feel that what I am saying now is very different from before, but this is normal, because my spirit is elevating, and it is elevating rapidly. Without the shackles of , and without the interference of many beings, I am much clearer than before. Especially under the bathing of Buddha-light, I have been purified a great deal, and in listening to the sutras and hearing the Dharma, many doubts in my heart have been resolved. I am now speaking these words to you as a transparent soul.
To all the employees in my former company, and all the colleagues in the large company my daughter has now taken over (which was established after the merger of television stations from other counties and cities), no matter what, to all who know me, the students I once taught, all the friends I interacted with in the political arena, and all my fellow villagers, I have so many things to share with you here, and I hope you can understand even one or two points. As long as it can be helpful to your life, that is a good thing. I also sincerely hope that everyone can learn the true Buddhist education, so as not to waste this life.
Practitioner Su hopes to vigorously promote the Buddha’s teachings in Taiwan, allowing all children to be exposed to the Buddha’s teachings from a young age and remain uncontaminated—I have truly and deeply felt this intention. I must also do my utmost to support Practitioner Su's cause. I was once a primary school teacher, and in the process of teaching children, although I always taught them good qualities such as diligence, hard work, and kindness, because I had not received true Buddhist education, I could not teach them more profound truths about life. Sometimes I accidentally said a few biased things, and I hope they can forgive me.
In their hearts, I have always been that very kind Teacher Hsu, and I hope they can now listen to what this Teacher Hsu, who has passed away, has to say. I am still the same me; I have not changed. In the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I am still the same cheerful person I was before. It is just that my spirit has elevated, and having experienced suffering, I now know many things I dared not think about or had never thought about before. The two words "moral foundations" are very subtle; I hope everyone will hold onto this kindness in their hearts, and remember to think for others and not for oneself—this is true goodness. If one is stained with the blemishes of "self" and "me," then one's life has been lived in vain.
Practitioner Su always says bluntly, "Lived in vain!" This sounds very sad, but it is the truth. Please, everyone, you must believe this. In one's life, no matter what, one must live for others. As for me now, I must live for the propagation of the Buddha’s teachings. Although I no longer have a body, I hope this letter of mine can reach everyone's hands and be of great help and inspiration to you all. There are many people who know me, and I hope that those who know me can receive this letter from me, Hsu Heng-Tzu.
I have lived my life well, but I have indeed faced such retribution. I hope everyone will take this as a warning, do not follow my old path, and must move towards true purity and goodness, so that you can truly reach the state where you do not grow old, not get sick, and the spirit never dies. This is my sincere plea, and I hope you can take it to heart. I am grateful to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su for giving me this opportunity to share all this; my heart is full of gratitude and emotion. Thank you all!
