Seeing the Peril of China, They Descend to Save the World
Brief: Renowned ophthalmologist, former Director of the Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, and consultant expert on blindness prevention for the World Health Organization (WHO). He made significant contributions to the establishment of modern Chinese ophthalmology and public health blindness prevention projects.nnInterview by: Venerable Fa Hui nnJuly 17, 2026nn[[BLOCK_0]]nnZhang Shiyuan:nnNamo Amituofo!nnAt this moment, I, Zhang Shiyuan, am on the Western Land of Nature at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, full of anticipation for the commencement of the . This ceremony is the foremost ceremony in the vastness of the Dharma Realm, for the one leading the ceremony is from the spiritual realms.nnAt this very moment on Earth, because Practitioner Su, an awakened being in the human world, shares the same heart, vows, and actions as the Buddha, and actively saves sentient beings from suffering, Namo Amituofo abides at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. This message is the reason I am sending this letter to the people of the world at this time. I hope that after reading this letter, everyone will know that the Buddha has already arrived on Earth to bring people the benefits of being free from aging, free from illness, and that the spirit never dies. This matter is so important, yet so few people in the world know about it.nnAt this moment, I, Zhang Shiyuan, with a heart full of gratitude, pay homage to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su on the lotus seat of the Western Land of Dharma Nature. I am grateful to the Buddha for saving me, allowing me to come to this pure, bright, and beautiful world of the Western Land of Dharma Nature, and giving me the opportunity to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss in the future.nnI am Zhang Shiyuan, a renowned ophthalmologist from China.nnIn this life, I devoted most of my energy and time to ophthalmological research, hoping that through my research findings, the people of China could suffer a little less. Of course, if people in other countries could also benefit from this, I would be very happy.nnRegardless, conducting research is not a casual matter, especially when it involves such an important part as the eyes; one must treat it with a very careful and cautious attitude. In ophthalmic surgery, I always put in a great deal of effort. In the later stages of my life, I basically upheld the philosophy that prevention is better than cure, hoping to find a way for more people to be free from the threat of cataracts.nnThroughout my life, I have made a small contribution to ophthalmic research in China. However, in my heart, there was always a voice telling me that this was not the end of medical science and that there would inevitably be greater breakthroughs in medicine in the future. But at the time, I did not know what that was; I only vaguely felt that what I was researching, although proven to have very practical uses in theory and practice, seemed to be missing something.nnThus, after I died, my soul entered the eye-gouging hell, suffering endless torture. My eyes were constantly gouged out, and I would die, but no matter what, I could not leave; I just continued to suffer torture there. When my eyes were gouged out and I was in extreme pain and unable to see, I felt very terrified in my heart, and at the same time, a heart of repentance slowly arose. Because I vaguely felt that I must have done something wrong, which is why my eyes were specifically subjected to such cruel punishment.nnAfter staying in hell for a period of time, I was fortunate enough to be saved by Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia and brought to the Western Land of Dharma Nature. At this moment, I am on the Western Land of Dharma Nature, conveying these messages to everyone. It is truly I, Zhang Shiyuan, speaking to you here. Anyone who has the karmic affinity to see this letter can come here to verify it; I am waiting here for everyone to come and talk to me.nnThe current medical treatments in the world, whether in ophthalmology or other fields, ultimately cannot fundamentally solve the problem of illness. It turns out that the cause of all diseases is that one's own heart has become ill, which in turn causes one's soul to become ill; and after the soul becomes ill, it causes corresponding pathological changes in . This is the truth I have observed on the Western Land of Dharma Nature.nnThis concept is very important. It tells everyone that among the Body-Mind-Spirit, the core guide is one's own heart. The importance of the heart is repeatedly emphasised in the Buddhist education at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, telling everyone that one must conduct fundamental treatment from one's own heart to allow the body and soul to be truly healed.nnIf one can learn what the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way are, and can truly walk on the path of Truth without deviating from it, one can ensure that one's soul is healthy and can also allow one's body to avoid aging, illness, and death.nnIt turns out that the problems of aging, sickness, and death all lie in one's own heart. If the heart cannot truly be free from any selfishness, free from any my or my , and still retains attachment to this body, it will give the and countless spirits within the body the opportunity to attack. When their anger is awakened, what follows is their overwhelming revenge, which will cause one's soul to be kicked out of the body.nnEven some souls enter hell to suffer punishment while the physical body is still alive. This is the reason why some people suffer from major illnesses (such as cancer); it is actually because the soul within the body is no longer complete. When a part of oneself is already suffering in hell, how can the body maintain a healthy state?nnIt turns out that every little abnormality and discomfort in this body from childhood to adulthood, or the beginning of aging and illness, already signifies that one's soul is wandering outside the body or even suffering punishment. If the Buddha had not so compassionately opened this up for us, we would have no way of knowing this truth.nnSince we understand this important concept, we can understand that how to care for and educate one's own heart is the most important thing in a person's life. That is to say, a person's external material conditions may be lacking, but the simplicity and goodness in the heart must never be lacking.nnWhen one is still an infant, how can this simple, kind, and clean heart be kept in a clean and kind state? That is, to ensure that one's kind nature is not covered up during the process of growing up; this is a key point that every parent should understand.nnEducation has a truly profound influence on children. From the time a child is still in the mother's womb, one should truthfully speak of this great Dharma to the child; it is the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, and it is also true purity and goodness. To be specific, it is actually this phrase, Namo Amituofo. If every Chinese person could understand the importance of this Namo Amituofo, then why would there be any worry about the people of China not having a peaceful and happy life?nnWhen people chant this Buddha-name, I can clearly see that it can emit energy of varying sizes. This energy is extremely pure and good; it is the that Namo Amituofo gives to sentient beings, because the Buddha-name contains the supreme merit and power of the Buddha.nnHowever, the effect of chanting this Buddha-name varies greatly from person to person. If it is the Namo Amituofo chanted by my benefactor, Practitioner Su, it can open up the space of all things. The sentient beings within the physical world—mountains, rivers, and concrete structures—can have the opportunity to be saved, and this Buddha-name can also be used to perform for sentient beings, saving immeasurable and boundless suffering spirits, and even more so, it can be used to heal people.nnThe function of the Buddha-name in the hands of Practitioner Su is truly utilised to the fullest. This is because Practitioner Su has truly forgotten himself, forgotten his body, and forgotten everything related to this body. He has let go of all family members, wealth, fame, profit, and status in the world, completely and thoroughly. In his heart, there is only this Namo Amituofo, and nothing else.nnWhen I, Zhang Shiyuan, saw the manifestation of Practitioner Su, I understood that if one is attached to any worldly things, one has already lost the possibility of helping sentient beings. It turns out that to truly help sentient beings, one must first be able to transcend oneself to save the suffering beings who are still lost in the world. It is just like a person who must first get ashore themselves before they have the ability to save the suffering beings who are still drowning and suffering in the sea of misery.nnTo help suffering sentient beings, Practitioner Su practises diligently, purifying his Body-Mind-Spirit until he attains Buddhahood. This is compassion for sentient beings, and it is also compassion for himself, and such compassion is something that every Chinese person should learn.nnHere, I, Zhang Shiyuan, want to tell all Chinese people: it turns out that each of us came to this world to help sentient beings, not to enjoy ourselves, and certainly not to taste the various flavours of , anger, sorrow, and happiness, or sour, sweet, bitter, and spicy. If one is addicted to these false and fleeting illusions, one will lose the opportunity to find one's original face.nnIt turns out that the Buddha has come to the world now to tell everyone that, in fact, everyone is originally a Buddha. He teaches everyone that they should seize the time to practise diligently and truly allow their original compassion and wisdom to manifest.nnWhen I look back on my life on the Western Land of Dharma Nature, when I was treating patients for eye diseases, I was surprised to find that in terms of ophthalmic surgery, when I successfully completed the surgery, in the process, because my heart could not truly be free from self, free from this I, it led to many of the karmic creditors within the patients I treated jumping onto me. This was truly a shocking thing.nnIt turns out that being a doctor is not easy at all. In addition to the need for knowledge, technical aspects, and professional quality, one also needs the cultivation of the heart. I never knew that in secular medical training, such an important link was missing, which is the cultivation of heart-based resistance. If one lacks heart-based resistance, it will inevitably lead to the constant burden of karmic creditors and spirits attached to the patients one is treating during the medical process. For oneself, this belongs to external spiritual attachment, and these attachments will cause a certain degree of burden and damage to one's body. This is an important concept that every medical practitioner in the world should understand.nnHow can one possess sufficiently high heart-based resistance? After I, Zhang Shiyuan, listened to Practitioner Su's Dharma talks, I slowly understood that the cultivation of heart-based resistance is very simple; it all depends on this Namo Amituofo Buddha-name. The core concept is to allow one's heart to be in sync with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. When one can be in sync with the Truth, one has sufficiently powerful heart-based resistance in the present moment, so that one can avoid bearing a large number of spiritual attachments while helping others.nnPerhaps some people will say that to help patients, I would not hesitate even if I had to sacrifice my life. I want to say to these people that I greatly admire and praise the determination you have made to save lives; such selfless great love is a very precious quality.nnHowever, one must know that when one has the phenomenon of spiritual attachment, it does not just cause changes or lesions in the body, but also affects one's heart and soul to a certain degree. This means that after the spiritual attachment becomes more and more serious, it will actually cause one's heart to become ill. This ill heart becomes no longer as kind and simple, slowly becoming more and more complex, adding many selfish elements. This is actually part of the influence caused by spiritual attachment.nnUnless one has sufficient and can awaken to the fact that one is a Buddha at every moment, if one cannot do this, then too many medical practitioners will suffer tremendous torture and damage in their Body-Mind-Spirit due to spiritual attachment in the long process of helping patients.nnOn the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I truthfully tell the people of the world: now, Namo Amituofo abides at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, which is to come to the human world to help everyone obtain the true benefits of being free from aging, free from illness, and that the spirit never dies, and to help everyone be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss after this life ends. This is an opportunity that is difficult to encounter in millions of years.nnThe Buddha has come to the world, not to bring any idol superstition or religious worship, but to help everyone through education, to understand their own wrong mental notes and behaviours in the process of listening to the Dharma. If one can make improvements, it will be of great help to oneself.nnThe human body is such a large space. Among the countless cells, there is an unimaginably vast space; and within the space, there are various kinds of souls, most of whom are our karmic creditors.nnKarmic creditors are actually generally very miserable because they follow one's soul throughout many lives with hatred and resentment. When one's soul enters the mother's womb in this life, it means that countless karmic creditors have simultaneously entered the cell space of the mother's womb. If I had not seen this on the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I would really not have been able to imagine it at all; I never thought that this is the truth of the human body.
If Namo Amituofo had not come to this world to unravel the mysteries of the human body for us, we would not have known that the first thing we must heal in this lifetime is the restless and wounded hearts of the countless karmic creditors and resentful spirits within our own bodies. To achieve this, there is only one method: accepting Buddhist education. While receiving this education, lead the countless sentient beings within your cells to receive it as well. As you listen to the teachings together, you are continuously accumulating the provisions for resolution for both yourself and them. What exactly are these provisions? Specifically, it is faith in Namo Amituofo, the vow to help sentient beings, and the concrete actions taken to help them. In Buddhism, this is known as Faith, Vows, and Practice. The of Faith, Vows, and Practice are so important, and in fact, they can all be integrated into the Holy Name Namo Amituofo. The act of chanting the Buddha's name seems simple, yet it is profound and vast, encompassing all the profound meanings of the Buddha's teachings. This Namo Amituofo is a great gift that the Buddha brought to this world. I hope everyone will cherish this gift and settle their hearts firmly upon this Holy Name. If you can lead yourself and the countless sentient beings within your cells to chant this Namo Amituofo together, you will invisibly resolve the opposition between you. Furthermore, one day, you may have the opportunity, like Practitioner Su, to realise your true nature and attain Buddhahood. At that time, it will not just be you who attains Buddhahood, but the countless karmic creditors and sentient beings within your body will also be able to attain Buddhahood together. Only then can one be qualified to be called a true healer. It turns out that a true healer must be able to realise their true nature. First, one must thoroughly heal the problems within oneself before having the opportunity to heal the illnesses of suffering sentient beings externally. This is what Practitioner Su has demonstrated for us in this lifetime: during these five years of purification, diligent practice, and attaining Buddhahood, he has led himself and the countless sentient beings within his body to attain Buddhahood together. The manifestation of countless incarnations tells us that the human body actually possesses such great potential! It turns out that after attaining Buddhahood, one can use this precious human body to exert the various inherent abilities of the spirit, travelling to every corner and space of the world to perform Chao Du. As Practitioner Su chants the Holy Name Namo Amituofo, immeasurable and boundless sentient beings receive deliverance under the illumination of the Buddha’s light. Not to mention the countless resentful spirits within the human body that cause physical illness and torment the body and mind; they can all be liberated from their suffering with the help of Practitioner Su. Many of these karmic creditors have already been settled by Practitioner Su in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, where they live a bright, pure, and fulfilling life, and will be able to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss in the future. Spiritual healing—if Namo Amituofo were not residing in this world, and if Practitioner Su were not performing Chao Du day and night, accumulating immeasurable and boundless merit, how could such an inconceivable thing be realised? People in this world should truly come to know this precious land, the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, as soon as possible. The Buddha is actively carrying out the work of saving the world, and to save the boundless sentient beings of this world, you, as one of the objects of salvation, should also contribute your efforts. At this very moment, China needs more true healers—those who have realised their true nature and attained Buddhahood. This is of great help to the countless people in China who are suffering from illness. The objects helped by those who have attained Buddhahood are definitely not just the patients of this world, but also the countless suffering spirits in the spiritual realms. I hope that in the future, more people in China will learn this skill. It is a true skill of the heart: to chant the Holy Name to the end. It is compassion, it is boldness, and it is the vow to seek liberation. If one has been a doctor for a lifetime but fails to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss after death, and continues to suffer in the ocean of reincarnation, how can one be called a qualified doctor? As a healer, if you cannot even heal yourself, how can you claim to have the ability to heal others? Namo Amituofo came to this world to give everyone the opportunity to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, because Namo Amituofo is the true Great Physician. He not only truly healed himself but, after attaining Buddhahood, established the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—a world without suffering, eternal, bright, and beautiful. Now, the Buddha has come to relieve all the suffering in the world, helping everyone and all sentient beings in the spiritual realms to be liberated from suffering. Namo Amituofo can lead everyone back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, allowing everyone's soul to find a perfect and ultimate destination. I ask all those who have the karmic affinity to see this letter to chant Namo Amituofo together. As long as your heart and mind are always on the Buddha, you will surely have a day when you connect with the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. In the future, there will inevitably be a branch of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in China, because too many Chinese people are suffering from being unable to be the master of their own lives, suffering from various physical and mental pains, and suffering from aging, sickness, and death. China truly needs such a magnificent and rare temple, because its abbot is Namo Amituofo of the spiritual realms, and its human leader is Practitioner Su, who has realised his true nature and attained Buddhahood. I also ask all those with karmic affinity to pray for China together, chant Namo Amituofo, and dedicate the merit to the whole of China. I hope that the compassionate light of Namo Amituofo will soon shine upon China, and that Buddhist education will soon be widely spread in China. Only by connecting with the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre can China have further possibilities, because the potential of the Chinese people has not been truly unleashed. The current China is still in a deep sleep. Only by learning the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way can the Chinese people become more awakened—awakened to the fact that they are Buddhas, and awakened to the fact that China can also be a Western Buddha-land on earth. When the Causal Conditions are ripe, all of this will have the opportunity to be realised. Gratitude to Namo Amituofo, gratitude to Practitioner Su. Namo Amituofo Zhang Shiyuan [[BLOCK_1]]
