The Past and the Present

Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:

It is because of the various events of the past that the fourfold assembly can now practise at the place where Namo Amituofo is residing—the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

Therefore, one must be grateful for the past and let go of all rights and wrongs, self and others, and grievances.

The past was formed by the connection of causes and Causal Conditions.

The various people, matters, objects, scenes, and environments of today are also proceeding in the cycle of cause and effect.

Therefore, do not be attached to any of them; you should let go of them all.

If you wish to achieve spiritual success in your practice, you must thoroughly let go within your heart. In both matters and principles,

you will then be able to maintain an unmoved mind, act in accordance with reality, not create karma, and not obstruct your practice.

In past lives,

we have tasted the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death; the suffering of meeting those we hate; the suffering of being separated from those we love; the suffering of not obtaining what we desire; and the suffering of the five aggregates—Form, Feelings, Perceptions, Mental Formations, Consciousness—burning like fire.

Today, being able to enter the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, to be an awakened being, and to be led by the power of the Buddha to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss to leave suffering behind and gain happiness—

you must be fiercely diligent to be correct.

In the past, while in the world, we did not know of our true self, nor did we understand the value of being an awakened being.

Later, upon learning the Buddha’s teachings, we realised that the Dharma is like a vast ocean that can resolve all suffering.

Having come to know Namo Amituofo and the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, and now entering into practice,

we finally have the time to generate the Bodhi mind and desire to chant the Buddha’s name for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Because we feel the suffering of having a physical body, we know the suffering of all beings.

Under the teachings of Namo Amituofo, the Teacher, and Practitioner Su,

the assembly can finally understand the importance of generating the Bodhi mind.

Thus, we generate the Bodhi mind, vow to be diligent in chanting the Buddha’s name, and have the opportunity to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is a Buddha-land for becoming a Buddha through the One Vehicle.

In the past, within the Forty-eight Great Vows of Namo Amituofo,

Namo Amituofo provided various skilful means to beings,

leading all beings from the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Today, Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre sees the suffering of beings, and with the arising of the Ultimate Vow, wishes to save beings and pull them out of all suffering,

he guides the deceased who are undergoing Chao Du to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss,

and leads the fourfold assembly to be fiercely diligent, hoping that we will soon find our true self again.

Both in the past and today, we all wish to attain the Buddha’s path together and follow the Buddha to save countless suffering beings.
