Amitabha Buddha's discourse:
Transcendence means to depart from the world.
Engagement with the world means to enter the world.
All things in the world do not depart from the arising and ceasing of Causal Conditions; they have a temporal nature and the appearance of arising and ceasing.
Because we have this body, we have a relationship of arising and ceasing with the world through Causal Conditions.
Within this relationship, if one can constantly maintain stability in the heart, this is having a transcendent heart while engaging with the world,
which is the state of one whose heart is stable.
This state,
can be seen in those who have achieved success in transcendent meditative concentration, and those who have attained and engage in the world to teach beings.
Because they clearly recognise the truth of the arising and ceasing of Causal Conditions,
they can stay away from the powerful vortex of , are not pulled by karma, and achieve success in their practice.
They can endure the suffering of the defiled and evil world, and within it, perform the work of teaching beings.
People in the world, in order to pursue stability in their hearts,
or because they are troubled and suffer from birth, aging, sickness, and death, and seek liberation and to leave suffering behind for themselves,
or because they see the suffering of beings and wish to perfect themselves, save beings, and help them leave suffering behind and attain rebirth in the ,
they engage in transcendent practice.
When practising, like Bhikkhu Dharmakara who let go of home and abandoned desires to become a monk,
one practises the , Concentration, and Wisdom, and in being fiercely diligent, one moves forward step by step with one's feet firmly on the ground,
and attains Awakening, finding back the true nature,
only then does one have the ability to teach beings and face the myriad problems and sufferings of beings.
First, transcend to resolve one's own suffering; after the heart is stable and one has attained Awakening, only then does one have the ability to enter the world to resolve the suffering of beings,
and perform the work of teaching beings.
This is the reason why monastics in the past could be teachers of celestial beings and the World-Honoured One.
Now, we are encountering the magnificent manifestation of affinity of Amitabha abiding at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
If all of you can go to seek the Dharma, you can obtain the benefits of the Dharma from transcendent practice.
In diligent daily practice,
in accumulating merit and virtue, and dissolving karma and removing obstacles,
in diligent practice of chanting Buddha's name, and chant Namo Amituofo all the way,
you will gain success in the study of the Three Learnings of Precepts, Samadhi, and Wisdom, and have the opportunity to enter the world to save beings.
