A Mother's Call from the Pure Land
The Second Letter from Lay Practitioner Zhao Liangyu to Venerable Dinghong
A Message of Compassion and Guidance
My dear son, I have been waiting for you to come to me. I have been watching for your arrival, yet I have received no news of you. It seems my letters have been blocked, and it is truly not an easy task for them to reach your hands. I pray constantly for the Buddha’s to descend upon you, so that you may soon see the words I have written from the depths of my heart. Please, come and see me soon; I am still here waiting for you.
The Reflection of a Mother's Heart
You know my character better than anyone else. You know that when I make a promise, I am certain to fulfil it. I have come to realise that this stubborn, strong-willed temper of mine is something that truly needs to be transformed; had I changed it earlier, perhaps your father and I would not have had such discord. Here at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, under the guidance of Practitioner Su, I am doing very well.
I once believed that you were practising well, but only after arriving here did I truly understand what it means to engage in genuine practice. If one possesses a mind filled with vast scriptural knowledge, yet lacks the ability to achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land, can we truly say that one has practised at all? I have come to understand so many aspects of the Truth while residing here. I truly wish to save you, my child. I want to help you, so please, come and see me.
The Path of True Liberation
You are already familiar with Practitioner Su and the work being done here. I understand that there are many times when you cannot make decisions on your own, especially with the Venerable Master Chin Kung present. The Venerable Master is like a father to you, and I know how deeply you respect and follow his guidance. Even if you have your own thoughts, I know you would not dare to voice them. I once supported your decisions, but things are different now.
I can see that you are walking a path that will not lead to rebirth in the Western Pure Land. It is not worth it; it is truly not worth it! To hold onto your reputation and status while failing to secure rebirth in the Western Pure Land—my child, this is simply not worth the cost. I implore you to wake up.
A Final Plea for
You know the character of Practitioner Su well. He is not someone who acts without cause; he must possess profound meditative concentration to achieve what he has. I believe you know this in your heart, yet it makes your choice so difficult. Do not overthink it anymore, my child. Your heart is always tied up in knots, and it breaks my heart to see you suffer so. I only wish to help you. Please, come to me. I am waiting for you.
