Recorded and transcribed by ’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe. During the second session of the on March 14, 2025, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these essential teachings on how to transcend our current state of being.
To move straight ahead without hesitation is the most vital method for breaking through your current limitations. Often, we find ourselves unable to progress on the path of practice, yet the reasons for this stagnation are almost always of our own making. We become trapped by our subjective views, our tendency to see things in a negative light, and the mental barriers we construct ourselves. Therefore, the act of moving straight ahead is the most effective way to break through these limitations, as it directly dismantles our ego-attachment and our distorted views of reality.
There are many moments when you may feel lost, unable to find the answers or the methods required to continue your journey. You might find yourself standing still, or worse, slipping into a state of being drowsy or becoming lost in the illusions of space, which causes you to retreat from your practice. In truth, the solution is much simpler than you might imagine.
To break through your current situation, you must return to the fundamental practices: prostrations to humble the ego, chanting Namo Amituofo to purify the mind, and reciting the Sutras to gain wisdom. These are the most effective ways to overcome any obstacle you face. There is no shortcut to spiritual success, and the path of practice is rarely a smooth, unobstructed journey. Within this process, your faith in the Buddha is the most important foundation of all.
Never forget that prostrations, chanting Namo Amituofo, and reciting the Sutras are the Jewel of your practice. Among these, the ability to maintain the Buddha-name 24/7 is a skill that is absolutely essential for any practitioner of the Pure Land path. It is only by developing this level of skill that your practice can truly break through current limitations and achieve success.
Consider the nature of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a realm of pure , free from all suffering and devoid of any obstacles that might hinder your progress. It is the perfect environment for practice. In that sacred place, one can listen to sutras and hear the Dharma 24/7, offer homage to the Buddhas within a deep meditative state, and travel across all Buddha-lands in the span of a single thought. If your practice continues to advance, you will naturally enter the various levels of the Pure Land.
Today, the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre serves as a precious land for your practice. Do not overthink your situation or allow your mind to become cluttered with unnecessary doubts. Instead, focus your energy on the path ahead. Through the simple, dedicated practice of prostrations, chanting Namo Amituofo, and reciting the Sutras, you will find your way.
