Namo Amituofo teaches us that the ability to focus on the good rather than the bad is a profound practice of the heart. It is the hallmark of a wise person and an essential skill for anyone who truly seeks to realise their true nature.

The Wisdom of Perspective

In this world of impermanence, everything is in constant flux. Good and bad, right and wrong, and the shifting tides of human emotion can change in a single heartbeat. Because of this, the practice of focusing on the good is not merely a positive outlook; it is a fundamental condition for navigating the world with grace and stability.

Transforming Adversity into Opportunity

When you choose to focus on the good, you gain the power to transform your environment. Even when you encounter adversity, you can view it as a precious opportunity for growth. By reframing these challenges, you turn them into adverse conditions for growth—a powerful catalyst that helps you face your obstacles, break through them, and continue your journey forward. If you can endure these difficulties with patience and , without resentment or regret, you are truly walking the path of the wise.

The Purity of the Heart

The practice of focusing on the good is ultimately about the purification of your heart. This principle transcends the limitations of time and space; it is the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Your heart’s state—whether pure or tainted—directly influences your spirit and your body. This is why the state of your heart is of such vital importance.

When your heart is pure, it brings purity to your spirit and body, allowing your entire Body-Mind-Spirit to remain in a state of and peace. Conversely, when your heart is tainted, it brings impurity to your spirit and body, causing your Body-Mind-Spirit to suffer and lose its balance. Therefore, in your practice, purification must always be your primary focus. Because your true self is inherently pure and untainted, only a purified Body-Mind-Spirit can lead you to realise your true nature.

The Practice of Transformation

No matter what you encounter through your Six Roots—what you see, hear, smell, taste, touch, or feel—you have the capacity to transform it into something good and virtuous. To think good thoughts, do good deeds, and speak good words is the practice of transforming your external environment once your spiritual quality has been elevated.

When your spiritual quality is raised, the reaction between your Six Roots and naturally changes. You will give rise to all and achieve the fruit of . Every interaction becomes a seed of goodness, with no roots of evil remaining. The tree of goodness that grows from these seeds will eventually bear the fruit of Bodhi, leading you to realise your true nature and attain Buddhahood.
