The Life and Journey of Lay Practitioner Nan Huaijin
When we speak of spiritual practice, what is it that we are truly cultivating? At the heart of our journey lie the Three Learnings of , Samadhi, and Wisdom. These are the fundamental lessons for all who follow the Buddha’s teachings. Whether you are a monastic, a lay practitioner, or a dedicated volunteer at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, you can rely on these three pillars to adjust and refine your hearts and actions.
Observing the Precepts acts as a protective shield for your body and mind. It is a virtuous method to ensure that you do not commit transgressions. While it is often said that no one is without fault, we must understand that even the smallest error can lead to negative karmic consequences. Whether a transgression is great or small, when the karmic result manifests, it is a time of suffering. Therefore, you must be cautious and mindful in every moment, ensuring that your conduct remains pure and aligned with the Truth.
Regardless of the circumstances you encounter, you must maintain a state of meditative concentration. Do not act rashly, and do not allow yourself to become agitated or restless. This is the proper attitude for every practitioner. When your heart is settled, meditative concentration gives rise to wisdom. Once this wisdom emerges, the difficulties you face in life can be resolved. This wisdom allows you to put the into practice, upholding the Precepts and maintaining a focused heart. As your meditative concentration deepens, it becomes an internalised skill, and from this stillness, the state of is born.
By relying on the majestic power of , you receive the necessary support to ensure your meditative concentration is successful and your continuous chanting of Buddha's name is maintained. When you settle your heart and refuse to let it be stirred by external ripples, you allow your Body-Mind-Spirit to enter a state of profound peace. In this state, your and your will have no opportunity to manifest. This is the moment when you truly transform your karma and achieve the success of your meditative concentration. May you always keep your heart settled and your practice steadfast.
