The Past and the Present
During the second session of the , we are reminded of the profound importance of contemplation. To contemplate is to observe the state of our own mind and the nature of our actions. We must learn to observe the difference between and confusion, between the right path and the wrong path, and between purity and impurity. This is not a practice of looking outward at the faults of others, but a practice of looking inward to reflect upon ourselves. When we see the faults of others, we only succeed in polluting our own hearts. Therefore, you must turn your gaze inward, reflect upon your own conduct, and be diligent in changing your ways and adjusting your physical actions to align with the .
What does it mean to be truly awake? Awakening is the state of clear understanding and complete wisdom. When one is awakened, they have realised their true nature and are on the path to attain Buddhahood. In this state, the : eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind are fully illuminated and functioning in their original, pristine capacity. Conversely, to be confused is to be lost in the illusions of this world. Those who are confused remain trapped within the six realms of rebirth, unable to escape the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, death. In this state, one is not the master of their own life; instead, they are driven by the force of their own . The Six Sense Organs: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind become submerged in the functions of , and their original nature remains obscured and difficult to perceive.
To walk the right path is to live in accordance with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. It means staying on the middle path, never veering into extremes, and keeping a safe distance from the evil realms of existence. When you act in accordance with the Truth, you are protected by the Right Way. On the other hand, to walk the wrong path is to act in violation of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Such actions lead one into bias and distortion, and the inevitable result is falling into the lower realms of existence. We must be vigilant in our choices, ensuring that every thought and action is guided by the light of the Truth.
Purity is defined by transparency, clarity, and a mind that is unhindered and selfless, dedicated entirely to the benefit of all beings. Impurity, by contrast, is the absence of this clarity; it is a state of mind that is clouded, selfish, and focused only on one's own desires. Those who have realised their true nature are those who are skilled at contemplation and skilled at changing their ways. By constantly refining their hearts and minds, they attain a state of pure, luminous light. May you all strive to be such practitioners, turning from confusion to awakening, from wrong paths to the right path, and from impurity to purity, until you finally attain Buddhahood.
