An Arhat is recognised as one of the sages within the Four Sacred Realms. The journey to this state is a rigorous process of spiritual progression: one must first attain the fruit of a Srotapanna, progress to a Sakrdagamin, and advance to an Anagamin, before finally realising the fourth fruit—the Arhat.
The sages of the Four Sacred Realms—comprising Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas—have successfully transcended the cycle of birth and death. They have severed their afflictions, escaped the three realms of existence, and are no longer subject to rebirth within the six realms, thereby earning their place among the sages. To reach such a holy state solely through one's own individual effort is an exceptionally difficult task, requiring immense discipline and perseverance.
The Door is a "two-power" path that relies on the combination of and the Buddha's power. This means that as Pure Land practitioners advance with diligence, they receive the and assistance of Namo Amituofo's power. This divine support ensures their practice goes smoothly and fosters spiritual growth, making it the supreme method for achieving spiritual success during the Dharma-Ending Age.
In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss—which is a One-Vehicle Buddha-land and the ultimate place for attaining Buddhahood—why does the title 'Arhat' appear?
In truth, the name 'Arhat' is used here to describe the depth and mastery of a practitioner's cultivation. It refers to those superior and virtuous beings who have ended the cycle of life and death and severed all afflictions. It also refers to those who have awakened the mind and focus single-mindedly on reciting the name of Namo Amituofo, as only such practitioners can enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Arhats dwell in the Land of Expedient Transformation with Remainder.
The Saha world—our current reality— is the Land of Sages and Commoners. It is a realm where Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Arhats sages dwell alongside sentient beings of the six realms. The only reason people cannot see these Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats is due to the limitations of the naked eye; however, those whose spiritual eyes have opened through successful cultivation and mastery of their practice are able to perceive them.
In Pure Land cultivation, one can achieve ultimate success simply by reciting the single Buddha-name, 'Namo Amituofo,' consistently to the very end. This is because the Buddha-name carries the immense blessings of Namo Amituofo's meritorious and mighty spiritual power. This power helps Pure Land practitioners purify themselves quickly, easily, and conveniently, allowing them to see their true nature and attain the Buddha Path. It is a supreme and wondrous Dharma door for achieving rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and attaining Buddhahood.
I hope that all those who see or hear this text resolve their minds, practise Buddha-recitation with diligence, and achieve spiritual success at an early date.
