The Compassionate Path of Saving Oneself and Others
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
The Distinction Between Realms
The of Ultimate Bliss is the sacred Buddha-land that countless beings yearn to reach. Its teaching master is the Universal Buddha, Namo Amituofo. The Western Pure Land is a realm of pure spirit, a true Buddha-land. In contrast, our worldly realm is a place where beings of the six realms of existence dwell together. It is a shared space for both human beings and the spirits of the unseen realms, forming a dwelling place for both the ordinary and the holy. Because our hearts differ in their purity and intent, our spirits find different destinations upon the end of this life.
The Power of Diligent Practice
If you, while living in this worldly realm, share the same vows and practice as Namo Amituofo, you must work diligently while you still possess a human body. By engaging in diligent practice, you can help the spirits residing within your own body to chant Namo Amituofo and undergo purification. Furthermore, by aligning your heart with the vows of the Buddha, you can realise your true nature and save yourself. When you reach the end of this life, if you have attained , you will be able to lead the countless beings within your body to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is the true meaning of saving oneself and saving others to reach the Western Pure Land.
The Ripple Effect of Awakening
When a practitioner of the Pure Land path succeeds in their meditative concentration, they are no longer swayed by external circumstances; instead, they gain the ability to transform those circumstances. Through the power of Buddhist education, they can deliver sentient beings by introducing them to Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. If these beings are given the opportunity to chant Namo Amituofo and make a vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land, they too can achieve success in their meditative concentration. They may even attain Awakening, allowing them to pass away with ease or know the time of their departure in advance. This, too, is the process of saving oneself and saving others to reach the Western Pure Land.
The Sacred Mission at Hsiang Kuang
One person who attains Buddhahood has the capacity to save countless suffering beings. Those who have reached Awakening through the practice of the Pure Land path not only attain their own liberation but also gain the ability to act as the Buddha does, leading countless spirits into the Western Pure Land. They can teach endless beings to chant Namo Amituofo and make the vow to be reborn in the West. If the beings they save are also able to attain Awakening, they too will see their wish to be reborn in the West fulfilled. This is the cycle of saving oneself and saving others.
Today, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, Namo Amituofo is truly residing here. In this sacred Buddha-land, Namo Amituofo has already saved and led countless beings into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, allowing them to leave suffering behind and find happiness. This fulfils the long-held wishes of these beings across many lifetimes and allows them to attain Buddhahood. If the public can help spread this message far and wide, countless more beings will be saved.
The Eternal Seed of the Buddha's Name
If you can help beings hear the sacred name of Namo Amituofo, you are planting a seed that will never be lost. As it is said, once the name enters the ear, it becomes a seed for the path to forever. Even if many lifetimes pass, these beings will eventually have their moment of salvation. Saving others is truly saving oneself; rescuing others is truly rescuing oneself. To save oneself and others to reach the Western Pure Land, to rescue oneself and others to reach the Western Pure Land—this is the path that every child of Hsiang Kuang must walk.
