As the false self begins to take shape and develop, it is essential that this process be guided by proper education from the very beginning. When we first interact with the external world, we are like a blank canvas. Therefore, we must be provided with the education of Pure Goodness. This is the foundation upon which a meaningful and awakened life is built.
The education of Pure Goodness is not merely a set of rules; it is a way of living that aligns with the the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. It teaches us the following core values:
Beyond our interactions with other people, the education of Pure Goodness extends to how we treat all living beings. We must learn to respect life in all its forms, no matter how small. When we encounter insects or other tiny creatures, we should not harm them. If they are in our way, we can gently guide them elsewhere. By practising this, we cultivate a deep sense of compassion and tolerance, which are the hallmarks of a noble character.
These concepts of Goodness, laws of and cause and effect, and moral responsibility should be introduced as early as possible. The earlier a child is exposed to this wisdom, the more deeply it will be integrated into their Body-Mind-Spirit.
Our ancestors placed immense importance on prenatal education. They understood that a fetus in the mother's womb is already capable of sensing and receiving external influences. If a mother surrounds herself with gentle, virtuous, and harmonious sounds, the fetus will remain calm and free from a restless heart. This state of inner peace lays the foundation for a well-balanced and upright personality later in life.
This is the profound wisdom of our ancestors, which has allowed the cultural refinement and virtuous character of the Chinese people to endure for generations. A child who grows up receiving the education of Pure Goodness will naturally possess a gentle personality. They will not compete with others, nor will they engage in unnecessary comparisons. Because their heart is aligned with Goodness, the karma from their past lives will have fewer opportunities to manifest, and they will be spared much unnecessary suffering. Consequently, their true self will naturally shine through.
In the Buddha’s teachings, there is a path that represents the ultimate form of this education—the purest of the pure, and the best of the best. This is the six-character name: . It is the most powerful tool for purification and transformation.
It is highly recommended that this name be introduced to children as early as possible. Even during the prenatal stage, a fetus can listen to the chanting of Namo Amituofo. This practice has a profound effect on teach and purification. It helps to:
By immersing our children in the light of Namo Amituofo, we provide them with the greatest gift of all—a life rooted in compassion, Wisdom (Prajna), and the promise of ultimate liberation.
