The Root of Diverse Spaces

The reason why there are so many different spaces within the universe is that the beings residing within them possess hearts that are fundamentally different. These differences manifest in many ways, such as the size, depth, quality, and moral standing of one's heart. We see distinctions in status, wealth, and character, all of which are reflections of the internal state of the individual.

Buddhas and those who have realised their true nature exist in a state of perfect equality. They clearly understand that all beings and the Buddha are originally one entity. However, in the realm of phenomena, they perceive that due to the laws of and cause and effect and the confusion of sentient beings, there arise the distinctions of the six realms of existence, the differences between self and others, and the disparities in status, wealth, and virtue.

Because they possess this profound clarity, they are able to accept every being exactly as they are. They see the underlying laws of karma and cause and effect, observe the person’s potential, and provide the appropriate teachings to guide and refine their character.

The Journey of the Spirit

People are separated into different realms based on the state of their hearts and the spiritual quality of their spirits. When the physical body will decay in this life and the worldly connections come to an end, the spirit enters a new space. Where one is reborn or where one travels is entirely determined by the condition of one's heart and spirit at that moment.

Depending on these conditions, the spirit may enter various realms:

  • The six realms of existence: hells, the animal realm, the hungry ghost realm, the human realm, the heavenly realm, and the asura realm.
  • The Four Holy Realms: Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas.
  • Other dimensions: Various spaces across this world, other galaxies, or different regions of the universe.

The Gathering of Superior Beings

Consider the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a world where all superior beings gather in one place. Therefore, regardless of where a being comes from, if their spiritual quality or their skills in chant Buddha's name are naturally in sync with that world, they will be able to enter it.

Some may chant Buddha's name and make a vow to be reborn there, and thus, they are lead by the Buddha back to the as they wished. Others may practise in the Pure Land, chant Buddha's name, and become an awakened being, allowing them to travel freely between the Western Land and other realms.

The Interconnectedness of Dimensions

Within each of the six realms of existence, there are further distinct spaces, each inhabited by different beings. These spaces are infinitely layered, and the beings within them are equally diverse and numerous. Beings in different spaces can naturally communicate and connect when the laws of karma and cause and effect create a bridge between them. However, for those who do not share such karmic ties, these spaces remain closed, and there is no interaction.

When Buddha or or those who have realised their true nature—who have already achieved liberation from the cycle of birth and death—act upon their vow to save beings, they are no longer bound by karma. They can transcend these spaces at will, guided entirely by their compassionate vow.

Those who chant Buddha's name will receive the Buddha's . Their vow can become deeper and broader, eventually becoming infinite. They can break through one space after another until there are no more limitations. When the past, present, and future are experienced as a single moment, one attains the divine power of movement. This is true freedom.
