My dear children, we must understand a fundamental truth regarding the nature of our minds. The mind of the past is unattainable, the mind of the present is unattainable, and the mind of the future is also unattainable. While you may grasp this principle intellectually to some degree, the true challenge lies in how much of this you can actually incorporate into your daily life.
If you can truly realise this, your heart will become serene, clear, and free from all obstructions. You will understand that everything in this world is merely an illusory manifestation. When you can clearly perceive these illusions without clinging to them, you will be able to walk your path in the present moment with stability and purpose. By doing so, you will no longer be controlled by external circumstances, and you will finally be able to take charge of your own life.
If you find this difficult to achieve, your mind will constantly wander between the past, the present, and the future. This is when afflictions manifest, leaving you at a crossroads, unsure of which direction to take. My dear children, the path of practice can actually be much simpler than you think. You must be diligent in the present moment, focusing entirely on the task at hand.
Do not allow your personal to interfere with your practice. Avoid the constant internal monologue of: 'I feel this way,' 'I want this,' or 'I think this should be done differently.' When things do not align with your personal preferences, you may find yourself feeling restless, or you may even allow anger to arise. You must understand that this sense of self—this 'I' that is so easily offended—is often not your true nature.
This 'I' is often a manifestation of your past , or it is the 'I' that has been conditioned by current karmic forces. In many cases, this sense of self is being influenced by external entities: your , who seek to influence your thoughts and actions; attached spirits, who reside within your field of ; and the demon crowds, who actively seek to control your mind and lead you away from the right path.
When you act, speak, or think under these influences, how much of it is truly helpful to your spiritual achievements? How much power do you truly have to transform your karma and reach an awakened state? Because your personality remains unchanged and you have not yet transformed your karma, you are not truly in control. Instead, you are being led by these external forces.
Therefore, you must dedicate everything to the benefit of all beings. Do not let this false sense of self manifest. You must ask yourself: is your future path being controlled by your karma, your karmic creditors, your attached spirits, and the demon crowds? Or, is your future path being controlled by your own efforts?
The choice is yours. You must walk your path with your feet firmly planted on the ground, taking one step at a time, and engaging in honest, diligent practice. By doing so, you will ensure that your journey leads you toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. .
