Namo Amituofo’s discourse:
When you are assigned duties within the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, you must perform them with a joyful heart. Even if the nature of your tasks changes, or if the personnel involved in your department are reassigned, you must remain steadfast. By maintaining a calm heart and continuing to chant the Buddha-name, you will find that your service remains unaffected by external fluctuations, supported always by the Buddha’s .
Joyful service is, at its core, a profound exercise of the mind. It requires you to understand the preciousness of this human body and the fleeting nature of life itself. Because you understand that time is limited, you must cherish your affinity with Namo Amituofo. Do not let a single moment pass in vain; every small action you take in service can be a step toward your ultimate liberation.
The Alchemy of
When you perform your duties with a pure, unburdened heart, you are practising the highest form of cultivation. You should work with a simple, direct intention, keeping your heart clear and free from the waves of emotional disturbance. When you approach your tasks with a genuine smile and a light heart, the Blessings and merit you accumulate are beyond measure.
However, if you allow your heart to become troubled by others or by external circumstances, the quality of your work changes: If you complete your tasks while feeling burdened, frustrated, or obstructed, your actions generate only Blessings. Because your heart is clouded by these negative states, your work is still influenced by impure . If you can let go of your attachments and perform your duties with a truly pure heart, your actions transform into merit.
Dissolving Karma Through Joy
Joyful service is the manifestation of the , Joy, and Selfless Giving of the Bodhisattvas. When you serve with a smile, you become someone whom others are naturally happy to approach. This joy has the power to resolve the conflict of countless grievances. It is the hallmark of a practitioner who has mastered their own mind and possesses the Wisdom to let go of the ego.
As you serve, you should simultaneously chant the Buddha-name. This is a powerful remedy for dissolving karma and clearing away obstacles. When other beings witness your joyful demeanour and hear the Buddha-name, they are often inspired to resolve their own past grievances, creating a harmonious environment for everyone.
The Path to
Those who serve others with joy are naturally respected and welcomed by all. By planting these good causes, you will inevitably reap good fruits. You will find that you are frequently assisted by noble people, which is the natural result of the Goodness you have cultivated in your daily life.
When you are a practitioner of joyful service, you derive a deep sense of Dharma-joy from the act of serving itself. This state of being is the true practice of the path. It is far superior to merely speaking about the Dharma without putting it into action. This is what it means to be in sync with your true self. I call upon the fourfold assembly to follow this path with sincerity and devotion.
