The Rare and Precious Spiritual Connection
Words of Namo Amituofo
Words of Namo Amituofo:
refers to the Buddha’s teachings. Conditions refer to the manifestation of spiritual connections. When we speak of a Rare and Precious Spiritual Connection, we are referring to the profound karmic manifestation that allows one to encounter the Buddha’s teachings and the path. This is an extraordinary event that is incredibly difficult to find in the vast cycle of rebirth.
The Rarity of This Human Life
There is a saying that has guided practitioners for generations: "A human body is difficult to obtain, yet I have obtained it. The Buddha's teachings are difficult to hear, yet I have heard them. The Pure Land is difficult to encounter, yet I have encountered it." You may ask, why is it so difficult to obtain this human body, to hear the Buddha's teachings, or to encounter the Pure Land? The answer lies in the intricate web of and the causes and effects that govern our existence.
Every aspect of your life—from you inhabit to the teachings you hear—is the result of causes planted in the distant past. When these conditions are ripe, the fruits manifest. It is only when these specific conditions align that you gain the precious opportunity to see your true nature and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Seizing the Moment of Manifestation
When you first hear the Buddha’s teachings, it marks the beginning of this connection. For those who possess a Rare and Precious Spiritual Connection, the moment these conditions mature, they are granted the opportunity to hear the great teachings of how to reach and become a Buddha. You must actively seize this moment of manifestation. You must dedicate yourself to diligent practice to realise your true nature. This is vital because once the conditions for the Buddha's teachings fade away, the opportunity to see your true nature and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss will vanish.
The Danger of Fading Conditions
We must be acutely aware of the fragility of these conditions. Consider the following scenarios where our opportunity might be lost:
- When your life in this world comes to an end, your physical body will decay. Once this happens, you lose the chance to use this "temporary" body to find the "eternal" truth. Throughout history, countless practitioners have felt deep regret and remorse for failing to seize this chance while they still had the time.
- When a Buddha or a Great Teacher enters Parinirvana, or when a true spiritual friend departs, the conditions for learning the Buddha's teachings may reach their end.
If your practice is not yet successful and you have not reached awakening when these conditions fade, no amount of regret will be able to turn back the clock. Your wish to reach in this life will come to nothing. In your next life, it is uncertain when you will again obtain a human body, hear the Buddha's teachings, or have the chance to practise the Pure Land path to reach awakening.
A Call to Diligent Practice
At this very moment, you, as students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, are living within this cycle of arising and ceasing. You are currently experiencing a Rare and Precious Spiritual Connection. Therefore, you must cherish this time. You must practise diligently and strive to reach awakening as soon as possible. By doing so, you will be able to save yourself and others, reaching the Western Pure Land and finding one's own Buddha nature, leaving behind all regret. Namo Amituofo.
