The Propagation of Mental Ripples
Namo Amituofo teaches that what we call heart-waves are the subtle vibrations emitted from within our own hearts. Even when these ripples are faint and seemingly insignificant, they possess the power to travel through the vastness of space. Those who are sensitive to these vibrations can perceive them, and by following the trail of these waves, they can locate the very person who emitted them. This is the fundamental mechanism of how information is transmitted across space. Depending on the capacity and clarity of the receiver, one may perceive these waves with varying degrees of intensity.
A World of Constant Fluctuation
The world in which we live is a world defined by constant motion and fluctuation. Within this environment, the seven emotions and the ensure that these mental waves never truly cease. Because these waves are always active, they constantly pull and tug at one another, and in this process, is generated. We are like magnets, drawn together by the Causal Conditions of our past. Because of these past connections, we engage in complex interactions:
- We are drawn together in attraction.
- We are pushed apart by repulsion.
- We provide mutual assistance.
- We create mutual obstacles.
Through these interactions, we continue to create the laws of karma and cause and effect without end.
The Discipline of the Practitioner
A true practitioner must learn to navigate this turbulent sea of energy. To do so, one must rely on the three pillars of practice:
- : Used to stop the creation of evil.
- Meditative concentration: Used to stop the motion of the mind.
- Wisdom: Used to break through the darkness of confusion.
By diligently applying these methods, the practitioner ensures that their heart-waves do not expand or connect with others, which would only generate even greater disturbances. Where there is a wave, there is a thought; where there is a thought, there is a form; and where there is a form, there is karma. Therefore, the progression of karma occurs precisely within these ripples. Even the most minute vibration carries the seeds of karmic consequence.
The Path to Stillness
To cease the accumulation of karma, one must cease the ripples themselves. One must stop the thoughts that give rise to these waves. By using meditative concentration to still the motion of the mind, even the most subtle vibrations can be brought to a halt. We must not allow these waves to expand and disturb our inner purity. Instead, we must strive to enter the state of no-thought, a realm of pure meditative concentration and clarity, rather than allowing the mind to remain trapped in a cycle of endless, restless motion.
The Infinite Power of the Buddha-name
Namo Amituofo understands the habits of all beings. He knows that our minds are unstable, that our thoughts are difficult to stop, and that, in our state of confusion, lacking the guidance of the Buddha’s teachings and true spiritual friends, we have committed many sins. Because of this, Namo Amituofo has infused his Great Vows and his infinite power into every single recitation of his Buddha-name. When you chant with a sincere heart, you will surely receive the Buddha's with every sound. This practice allows you to:
- Break through the thick darkness of ignorance.
- Sweep away the stains of impurity.
- Bring forth the light and energy of the true nature.
- Continue this journey until you reach the state of an awakened being.
Namo Amituofo.
