Making Good Use of Buddha's Power
The Life and Journey of Lay Practitioner Nan Huaijin
To walk the path of the Buddha, one must learn to accept the various truths of the six realms of existence with a calm and peaceful heart. If your heart is agitated, you immediately summon the beings within your body to awaken and attract external attached spirits. This causes your body to feel heavy, leads to a state of , and allows these spirits to enter your personal space. When you carry so many beings within your own body, how can you possibly possess the strength to save beings? Even if you possess certain abilities, if the number of beings within you continues to increase, your capacity will always be limited. You will find it difficult to make progress in your purification, and you will either remain stagnant or regress. Therefore, those who aspire to save the world and deliver beings must maintain a courageous and forward-moving spirit, while always keeping the heart calm and peaceful.
When an event occurs, it feels incredibly real, yet once it has passed, it leaves no trace. One might ask: is this reality or is it an illusion? If an event no longer exists after it has passed, then it is merely a phenomenon born from Causal Conditions—a manifestation of birth and death. It is an illusion, a false appearance. When Causal Conditions arise, it appears as an illusory existence; once those conditions fade away, it vanishes, never to return in the same form. The time has passed, the moment is gone, the people involved have moved on, and there is no trace left behind. This is the truth of reality.
Causal Conditions are constantly changing in every fleeting moment. Even when things appear to be unchanging, there are subtle shifts occurring within them. This is the nature of birth and death; Causal Conditions are always in a state of flux. While Causal Conditions are subject to birth and death, the spirit itself is neither born nor destroyed. Every being possesses this spirit. Within the life of this eternal spirit, we have passed through countless ages. These years are beyond calculation—surpassing thousands, tens of thousands, millions, and even trillions of years, extending back to time immemorial. Although beings may not remember their past, that past exists truthfully and vividly within the .
This spirit possesses a true and authentic nature, which is the true self. It is eternally pure, never wavering, and inherently complete with all virtues. Every being possesses this true self, yet it is covered and polluted by the endless illusions stored within the Alaya —the history of our cycle of rebirth since time immemorial. We must undergo continuous purification, removing defilements to attain purity, and then purifying ourselves again and again, until we can finally behold our original, true face.
