Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:
The speed of a swift horse already exceeds that of an ordinary horse; why then must one whip it to make it run even faster?
It is because there are important and urgent matters that require swift transcendence and rapid progress to be completed in time; failing to do so will lead to negative and unfortunate consequences.
Among these negative consequences, what could be more important than the approach of death?
A human body is hard to obtain, the Buddha’s teachings are hard to hear, and the is hard to encounter.
Being able to enter into practice is even more difficult among difficulties. Yet, if one’s practice has not achieved success, impermanence is always lurking nearby, watching like a tiger, ready to claim one’s life at any moment.
Should one not then whip the swift horse and be fiercely diligent?
If one succeeds in practice, attains , and is able to escape reincarnation, one will no longer be coerced or controlled by impermanence.
As in the 'Verse of Warning to the Assembly' by Samantabhadra:
'This day has passed, and life has diminished accordingly. Like a fish in dwindling water, what is there?
The fourfold assembly should be diligent in practice, as if saving one’s own head from fire. Always contemplate impermanence, and be careful not to be lax.'
Use this to encourage the fourfold assembly: while you possess a human body, every second and instant passes by.
You must cherish and make good use of it; do not waste your time.
For those who have not attained Awakening, life and death cannot be self-determined, and impermanence may arrive at any moment. If one dies, this period of life comes to an end.
If one is fortunate enough to encounter Practitioner Su while he is still in the world, the deceased will have the opportunity to receive and be led into the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. As long as one can enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, one has not lived this life in vain, having encountered Namo Amituofo.
If one does not encounter Practitioner Su in the human world, then when impermanence arrives, one will be reincarnated after death, suffering endlessly. When will one ever be able to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss?
The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia is where Namo Amituofo is residing here. Practitioner Su leads the fourfold assembly there, setting an example by treating one day as two, sleeping very little—only about two hours a day—truly knowing that time is as precious as a jewel and making good use of it.
Cherish this time when Namo Amituofo is residing here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in the human world; it is truly unprecedented and a rare, hard-to-encounter time.
In this defiled and evil world of suffering, only with Namo Amituofo residing in the world, and under the Buddha's , do the demon crowds, spirit realm beings, those in the human world, and sentient beings in the realm have the opportunity to be saved and leave suffering behind.
I deeply fear that if we do not diligently save beings, and Namo Amituofo returns to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, there will be no one to save the suffering beings. Truly, out of for all suffering, we invite Namo Amituofo to reside in the world!
Even an awakened being like Practitioner Su is like this; the fourfold assembly must not be lax or lazy. You should follow closely, and soon find your true self. Then, you will not be coerced by and impermanence, you will be free in life and death, and even be able to freely travel to and from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
With Namo Amituofo currently at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the fourfold assembly should truly follow Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su closely.
This is the geographical advantage for the students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre; where Namo Amituofo is, that is the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Only those who succeed in their diligent practice and enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss are the truly wise.
