The Fragility of the Epiphyllum
The Epiphyllum is a flower of rare and exquisite beauty. When it blooms, all who witness it are struck with wonder and admiration. Yet, its life is remarkably short. Many people hear of its impending bloom and travel great distances to see it, only to arrive and find the flower already withered. The most magnificent display has passed, and they are left with no choice but to wait for the next cycle. Because the plant requires careful cultivation, protection, and observation, there is always a hope for the next blooming period.
Even if you observe the plant with the utmost care, hoping not to miss a single moment, whether you will be able to witness the bloom remains uncertain. When the next cycle will occur is a question that even the Epiphyllum itself cannot answer. Perhaps it will bloom as expected, or perhaps, due to the nature of impermanence, the conditions will not align, and the flower will wither before it ever opens. In such a case, the beauty of that fleeting moment will be lost to this place forever.
The Presence of Namo Amituofo
Today, Namo Amituofo truly abides at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. Is this presence like the fleeting bloom of the Epiphyllum, or is it something that can be sustained? When you come to the Centre, you may witness the manifestation of the Buddha, or you may experience a profound sense of connection. You might receive direct teachings and guidance. These experiences vary, depending entirely upon your own affinity.
It is truly a rare and precious event that Namo Amituofo has descended to this world to abide at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. As you are all aware, throughout the history of the Buddha’s teachings in China, there have been sacred sites associated with the great Bodhisattvas:
- Mount Emei in Sichuan is the bodhimanda
- where Samantabhadra manifests.Mount Wutai in Shanxi is the bodhimanda
- where Manjushri Bodhisattva manifests.Mount Jiuhua in Anhui is the bodhimanda
- where Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva manifests.Mount Putuo in Zhejiang is the bodhimanda where Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva manifests.
These sites exist because of the deep Dharma affinity of the people in those regions. The four great Bodhisattvas manifest in these places to save beings, teach them, and benefit the world. Sometimes they display miraculous signs to inspire faith in the masses, and sometimes they provide profound spiritual experiences that lead to great benefits.
