A Journey from the Shadows to the Light

This is a record of an interview with Li Xuerun, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the ghost realm after passing away over fifteen years ago. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on June 5, 2026.

Li Xuerun speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. Namo Amituofo..."

"I am currently in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, chanting this Buddha-name with immense joy. Having arrived in this world only today, I am absolutely dumbfounded. I truly never expected everything to be so magnificent. I sincerely express my gratitude to the Buddha here! I am grateful to Namo Amituofo for creating such a wonderful world, and I am grateful to Practitioner Su for guiding us here. In the human world, Practitioner Su is already an awakened being—a Buddha who has realised their true nature and attained Buddhahood. To the eyes of the world, this might seem extraordinary, but it is absolutely, undeniably true."

A Transition Beyond Time

"I have only been here for half a day, but in terms of human time, it might have been just a snap of the fingers in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss! Before arriving here, I spent several weeks in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. There, I listened to the sutras and heard the Dharma in peace, coming to understand all that had transpired."

The Blessing of a Wise Relative

"I also understand why I was granted such a wonderful opportunity and such great blessings to be guided to this magnificent world. I forgot to introduce myself—my name is Li Xuerun, and I am the sister-in-law of Wang Huizhong. I have been gone from the human world for over fifteen years. Hearing Practitioner Su call my name, 'Li Xuerun,' so clearly, I must say that Wang Huizhong is truly wise and blessed! She is a kind-hearted person who has encountered the true Buddha, and she never forgot to perform Chao Du for those of us who have already passed away. This proves she is a genuine practitioner of the Buddha’s path. For us, this is truly the greatest blessing imaginable. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful sister-in-law, and I know I must cherish this precious opportunity."

Life in the Ghost Realm

"When I was in the human world, I lived a simple, quiet life for over sixty years. I was very content and did not have many worries. Looking back, those days passed in the blink of an eye. Whether those decades were good or bad, filled with the bittersweet flavours of life, it was all just a matter of what one could accomplish while possessing a human body."

"However, after leaving the human world, I was truly a lonely spirit—a ghost. There was no way to avoid becoming a ghost; it seemed to happen naturally, as if I had drifted into that space and began a life in the ghost realm. In my world, I could see many other ghosts just like me. Everyone was busy with their own affairs, and there were not many opportunities to interact. Sometimes it felt similar to the human world, only it lacked the warmth of human affection."

The Golden Light of Deliverance

"It is indeed true that the world of ghosts is dark. It is like the dead of night, forever devoid of light, which kept my heart in a state of depression and unease for over a decade. Then, one day, I was startled to see a beam of golden light. Later, I discovered that the Buddha-name was emanating from within it. I knew then that I had to seize this life-saving opportunity. I believed that only by truly turning towards the Buddha could I cease to suffer."

"With great confidence, I walked towards that light and arrived directly in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This is a world established by Practitioner Su with the assistance of Namo Amituofo. Practitioner Su can not only travel to and from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss but can also guide us to the Western Dharma-Nature Land, allowing us to undergo purification before being led to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."

A Message to My Family

"This transformation is so natural. In the eyes of Practitioner Su, it seems there is nothing that cannot be done. They use all sorts of methods to save beings like us, without any limitations. It is here that I have truly felt the vast heart and great capacity of the Buddha. In the Western Dharma-Nature Land, there are all kinds of beings, even many from the demon crowds. The Buddha has no discrimination or limitations towards beings; all are treated with absolute equality."

"I sincerely tell my family members here: everyone must believe in the Buddha. The Buddha has come to this world to save us; this is a real, tangible fact. Only by believing in the Buddha can one follow the Buddha’s footsteps and have the opportunity for liberation. Moreover, it is not just about rebirth; one can also become like the Buddha and attain Buddhahood. This is also Practitioner Su’s expectation for everyone. I hope all my family, friends, and those who read this interview can learn together, let go of the self, take all worldly matters lightly, purify yourselves, become pure and good, and realise your true nature to attain Buddhahood as soon as possible."
