The Vast Tapestry of Sentient Beings
Across a thousand mountains and ten thousand rivers, all that you encounter are sentient beings. This world is a vast, intricate web composed of countless spirits, infinite forms of life, and an immeasurable number of spaces. It is a world populated by beings whose numbers are beyond human calculation. Each of these beings carries their own unique personality, ingrained habits, and distinct ways of living. These characteristics define their existence and dictate the paths they tread within the cycle of rebirth.
In this expansive universe, the principle of birds of a feather flock together holds true. Sentient beings who share similar personalities and habits are naturally drawn to one another. They gravitate toward the same types of animals or plants, finding resonance in those forms that mirror their own internal state. This is not a random occurrence but a fundamental law of existence, where like attracts like, creating the diverse patterns of life we observe in the world around us.
Appearance Arises from the Mind
The spirits of human beings reside within the physical body, yet they are not static. Because each person possesses a different heart and mind, the spirits within them manifest in diverse ways. This is why it is said that appearance arises from the mind. This is a natural phenomenon; your physical countenance, your expressions, and the energy you project are all direct reflections of your internal state. If your heart is filled with confusion, your appearance will reflect that turbulence. If your heart is pure, your appearance will naturally radiate clarity and peace.
This is why the path of practice is so essential. To practise is to consciously work on changing your personality and your habits. You must refine your character until these negative traits are entirely dissolved. When you reach a point where these habits no longer exist, it signifies that your heart is free from the ego. You have attained the state of . In this state, you are no longer limited by personal desires or attachments, and therefore, you are able to embrace all beings with an open heart.
to the True Nature
When you reach the state of no-self, you reveal the true self. This is the manifestation of , vast mind-capacity, and the inherent Wisdom of your true nature. Within this true self, there are no distinctions between high and low, rich and poor, or any other worldly labels. The true self is a world of equality, free from discrimination, filled with boundless compassion and profound Wisdom.
In this awakened state, there is not a single trace of indulgence or rudeness. Instead, there is only a deep, sincere respect for every other being. Because you have realised that you are one with the Buddha, you naturally see every sentient being as a Buddha as well. This perspective transforms your entire experience of the world. You no longer look down upon others or judge them; you honour the Buddha-nature that resides within them, just as it resides within you.
The Path of Deliverance and Peace
Wherever the Buddha travels, peace follows. Through the power of the Buddha's presence, the spirits across a thousand mountains and ten thousand rivers find tranquility. Their hearts find a place of refuge, and their suffering is eased. This is the power of spiritual deliverance. By engaging in this practice, we help these beings leave their suffering behind and find true happiness.
We encourage all practitioners to dedicate themselves to chanting Namo Amituofo with a sincere heart. Through this practice, and through the grace of , we can help all beings achieve rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss. This is the ultimate goal of our journey—to return to the source, to awaken our true nature, and to assist all beings in finding their way home to the Western Pure Land.
