A goal is essentially the vow of a practitioner. To move forward according to your vow is not only the direction of your practice but also the very reason you will eventually see your wishes fulfilled. In the path of faith, aspiration, and practice, which are the for rebirth in the Western Pure Land, having faith in is the primary requirement.
During the process of fulfilling your vows and engaging in practice, you must combine your own efforts with the compassionate power of Namo Amituofo. This is what we call the dual power of self-effort and Buddha's . When these two forces work in harmony, you will find that your progress towards your goal is significantly accelerated. This is a fundamental truth that every practitioner of the Pure Land path must understand. If you learn to utilise the Buddha's power effectively, it will become the key reason for your success in reaching your goals and fulfilling your vows.
The blessings of Namo Amituofo are bestowed upon those who are truly dedicated to their practice. Specifically, these blessings are granted to those who are diligent and earnest in their daily practice, have made a sincere vow to achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land, and maintain a continuous chanting of Buddha's name without interruption.
When you engage in your daily lessons—such as prostrations, chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, and reciting the sutras—you are aligning yourself with the Forty-eight Great Vows of Namo Amituofo. Those who follow the Infinite Life Sutra with complete faith and put its teachings into action are truly walking the right path. As you move towards your goal, you will find that you reach your short-term objectives one by one. This applies equally to your chanting, your prostrations, and your recitation of the sutras.
In your practice, having a vow provides you with a clear direction and a concrete goal. You should always strive to move towards this goal with unwavering focus. If you find that you have not yet reached your destination, do not be discouraged. Instead, take the time to adjust your approach, correct your mistakes, and continue your journey forward. You must persist in this manner until you reach the state of an awakened being.
Once you have achieved the goal of an awakened being, you will possess the ability to save beings. However, even then, you must still rely on the assistance of Namo Amituofo. You must continue to save beings directly, one by one, as many as you can. Your goal should be limitless, and your work to save beings should never cease. Our Buddha is full of , and Namo Amituofo will always be by your side, providing eternal support and guidance.
