Teachings from , recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe:
On the thirty-first of October, 2025, during the midday offering, Namo Amituofo provided the following discourse on the nature of wisdom and the power of speech.
The Buddha’s ability to engage in unobstructed debate is not a mere intellectual skill. It arises because the Buddha has fully mastered and is in complete alignment with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Because the Buddha understands exactly where beings are lost in their confusion, he can address their problems with precision, dismantling their obstacles one by one.
When the Buddha looks upon the problems of beings, he sees their past, their present, and their future. This vision is entirely selfless and devoid of ego. It is motivated solely by and the desire to help all beings leave suffering behind. Because the Buddha possesses the divine sight and hearing to perceive the difficulties of all beings, he can teach them according to their specific needs, knowing exactly how to resolve their confusion without ever violating the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
The Buddha’s unobstructed debate is a manifestation of his vast power, great energy, and profound wisdom. To guide beings, the Buddha skillfully employs various methods:
By doing so, the Buddha prevents beings from unknowingly creating further negative , guiding them instead toward a life of clarity and virtue.
Why is this unobstructed debate so essential? It is because beings are often trapped within their own narrow perspectives and selfish views. They hold onto incorrect ideas that cloud their judgment. The Buddha sees this clearly and helps beings understand the true reality of all things, as well as the laws of karma and cause and effect. By understanding these truths, one can naturally follow the , uphold the , and refrain from creating negative karma.
You may ask, how can one attain this unobstructed debate? It is not found in external seeking, but in the cultivation of your own true self. One attains it through the following practices:
The true self is inherently endowed with infinite unobstructed debate. When your vows and actions are in harmony with this nature, you will naturally attain the wisdom of the Buddha. Namo Amituofo.
