Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded by Venerable HaiZe on the seventh of February, 2025.

The True Meaning of a Favourable Situation

When we speak of one's current situation, the perception of whether it is good or in need of improvement, stable or unstable, depends entirely on the state of one's heart. From the perspective of a practitioner, how should we define a favourable situation? It is not measured by worldly success, wealth, or comfort. Rather, it is measured by one's readiness for the final journey.

If you are prepared at any moment—should your physical body pass away—to have your spirit remain conscious and successfully achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, then your situation is truly excellent. Those who have this certainty are in the best possible position. At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, we strive for this state. While Practitioner Su possesses the ability to freely travel to and from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and can leave the physical body at will, the rest of the community must continue to work diligently toward this goal.

The Rare Opportunity at Hsiang Kuang

Given our current circumstances, we must not be content with the status quo. Instead, we must actively work to transform our situation. Through the power of chanting Namo Amituofo and the supportive of the Buddha, we can reach the goal where rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is assured. Every member of the fourfold assembly has this precious opportunity, but it requires fierce, diligent practice.

You must understand that throughout your accumulated lifetimes, you have created a mixture of good and negative . Unfortunately, the negative often outweighs the good, and the suffering far exceeds the happiness. If you do not transform this karma, you remain a being trapped in the six realms of rebirth. The difference between you and an ordinary person is that you have had the fortune to hear the Great of the Pure Land and to join the group cultivation at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.

  • The Path of the Fourfold Assembly: You have the opportunity to receive the and wear the robes of a monastic, elevating your spiritual quality as a Bhikshu or Bhikshuni.
  • A Rare Dharma Affinity: This process at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is the result of merit and virtue accumulated over many lifetimes. It is a magnificent reward that is not easily attained.
  • Guidance and Protection: Within this centre, you receive the Dharma sounds of Namo Amituofo, the teachings of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and the watchful care of Practitioner Su. This environment is a rare blessing that few practitioners ever encounter.

Transforming Karma and Facing Tests

Because you are in such a unique environment, you must possess the capacity to endure various tests. Whether these are tests from the Buddha, tests from demonic beings, or tests from other suffering beings, you must face them directly. You must change your ways, accept the lessons, and use these experiences to achieve purification. This is how you elevate the quality of your spirit. Without this process, you will either remain stagnant or regress in your practice.

This is necessary because you carry the responsibility of propagating the Great Dharma of the Pure Land. The beings you face are not limited to the six realms of existence—the heavens, the asuras, the human world, the animal realm, the hungry ghosts, and the hells. Your work extends throughout the vastness of the Dharma Realm, the universe, the Milky Way, the Earth, the heavens beyond heavens, and includes demonic beings and other non-human entities.

Expanding the Mind to the Infinite

Practitioner Su is currently engaged in the work of and subduing these demonic beings. In truth, the reach of Namo Amituofo extends not only throughout the ten directions of the Dharma Realm but also across the three thousand great thousand worlds. It is boundless and infinite, spanning the three periods of time and permeating the ten directions. There are countless worlds and immeasurable beings, all of whom are within the scope of Namo Amituofo's salvation. The mind-capacity of the fourfold assembly should be just as vast.

When viewed from the vastness of the Dharma Realm, the Earth appears as small as a single grain of sand. Yet, if a person in the human world realises their true nature, their mind-capacity becomes boundless, capable of merging with the entire Dharma Realm. This illustrates how precious and expansive the true heart can be.

The Path of True Cultivation

Those who have realised their true nature possess infinite , wisdom, and mind-capacity. Every member of the fourfold assembly has the potential to reach this state, but it requires you to be selfless and free from the ego. You must not be deluded by the various false appearances of or the Five Aggregates—form, feeling, perception, , and . You must let go of these false appearances and engage in True Cultivation, aligning yourself with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, allowing your original nature to manifest naturally.

So, I ask you: will you remain content with the status quo, passing your days in confusion, trapped by the ego and the needs of the body? Or will you choose to change your situation, practise with fierce diligence, and purify yourself without ceasing until you see your true nature?
