The Eternal Echo of the Tathagata

The profound phrase, 'Coming from nowhere, going to nowhere,' is a sacred teaching found within the ninth chapter of the Infinite Life Sutra, which describes the perfect accomplishment of the Buddha. During a discourse, the Venerable Ananda once asked Shakyamuni Buddha whether the Buddha-to-be, , was a Buddha of the past, a Buddha of the future, or if he was currently residing in another world. The response given by Shakyamuni Buddha was incredibly subtle and magnificent, revealing the true nature of the coming and going of the Tathagata.

Shakyamuni Buddha explained that the Buddha-Tathagata comes from nowhere and goes to nowhere. He is neither born nor does he perish. He is not bound by the past, the present, or the future; rather, he manifests solely to fulfil his vows and save suffering beings. This means that for the Buddha, there is no specific point of origin or destination. He is not subject to the cycle of rebirth, nor is he constrained by the limitations of birth and death. While ordinary beings are trapped within the cycle of samsara, the Buddha exists beyond these boundaries, acting only out of the power of his great vows to rescue all beings.

The Boundless of Namo Amituofo

Namo Amituofo is the embodiment of this eternal truth. He does not have a past, a present, or a future in the way that we perceive them. He is not limited by the passage of time or the constraints of physical space. His existence is entirely dedicated to the fulfilment of his vows to save all beings. The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss serves as the place where Namo Amituofo carries out this sacred work. Those who enter this , along with all beings in this world and others who are in sync with the and the vows of Namo Amituofo, are all connected to him by karmic affinity.

We are the objects of his salvation. Even if you have only once in your past lives chanted the name of Namo Amituofo, that act plants a within your . As the saying goes, 'Once it enters the ear, it becomes a seed for the Path forever.' When the spiritual foundations are fully matured in this life, the time for your liberation will arrive. This is the magnificent power of the Buddha's vow—it is a promise that never fades and a connection that can never be broken.

Beyond the Veil of Time and Space

For us, time and space are experienced as rigid phenomena. We perceive the past, the present, and the future as distinct periods, and we see the ten directions as separate locations. However, from the perspective of Namo Amituofo, there is no such distinction. Time and space are encompassed as one. Everything is clear, luminous, and perfectly understood within his heart. The reason we do not perceive this is that our true self is covered up by the layers of our own attachments and delusions.

The degree to which we can manifest our original nature depends entirely on the level of our purification. As we practise, our ability to see, hear, and understand the truth deepens in accordance with the purity of our hearts. This is why, when we read the sutras or listen to lectures, we may find different levels of meaning. Because our mind-capacity and our level of purification vary, our understanding of the can be broad or narrow, deep or shallow, near or far. This is the true meaning behind the statement that every word in the Buddhist sutras contains infinite meanings.

The Path of at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

At this very moment, Namo Amituofo truly abides at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. This place, the Western Land of Dharma Nature, is where Practitioner Su carries out the work of fulfilling vows to save beings. Under the guidance of Practitioner Su, the fourfold assembly of disciples is engaged in diligent practice. By following the vows, teachings, and the guidance of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, we strive to purify our body, mind, and spirit.

Our goal is to realise our true nature and reach the state of 'coming from nowhere, going to nowhere.' We seek to transcend the suffering of old age and illness, to attain a state where the spirit never dies, and to finally break free from the cycle of rebirth. By doing so, we ensure that we will be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, fulfilling the purpose of this life. Let us remain diligent, keep our hearts pure, and continue to chant Namo Amituofo all the way to our final destination.
