Interview with Dr. Helmut Sohmen (Former Chairman of BW Group)
This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Guo Fufeng, the uncle of Lay Practitioner Guo Lirong. He sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia and has since been delivered to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his transition from the suffering of the ghost realm to his rebirth in the Western Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on February 28, 2025.
Lay Practitioner Guo Fufeng speaks:
". I am truly filled with gratitude toward the Buddha and Practitioner Su. I never once imagined that I would have the incredible opportunity to see the Buddha with my own eyes.
Ever since my spirit was guided to the Buddha-land, my has become increasingly clear and bright. I can now see my past and my future with absolute clarity. Before I reached this state, I was still so deeply attached to everything concerning 'Guo Fufeng'—the physical agony I endured in my final days, and the constant worry I felt for my family members left behind."
"When I was suffering from my illness, it was impossible not to feel fear and deep-seated anxiety. I constantly questioned why such a cruel sickness had to find me. I desperately wanted to live a little longer; I still had so many things I wanted to accomplish. I spent my days clinging to the hope that, somehow, my body would recover and I would be whole again.
But I did not live to see that day. Fate had already decreed when I was to depart, and when that time came, I had no choice but to go. After I left my physical body, I found myself wandering in the ghost realm, suffering intensely and feeling completely helpless. If it were not for the Causal Conditions of this Chao Du, I truly do not know how much longer I would have had to endure such misery. Within the ghost realm, there are countless others who are suffering far more than I ever did. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been saved. I am also deeply grateful to my niece, Lirong, for her help in facilitating this deliverance."
"During this time, the Buddha has granted me the strength to change. He has allowed me to let go of my attachment to my former identity. Because I have come to understand the vital importance of listening to the sutras and hear the Dharma, I have been studying them with great sincerity. The more I listen to the teachings, the more awakened I become—not just in my mental state, but in the very clarity of my spirit.
I now realise that I have been trapped in the cycle of rebirth for aeons. In this lifetime, I was a human; after death, I fell into the ghost realm. In previous lives, I have been a cow, a horse, and a pig. Every single lifetime brought its own unique that found me. Now that I understand these laws of and cause and effect, I finally realise the necessity of repenting for my past actions."
"With a heart full of repentance, I began to practise chanting Namo Amituofo. The more I chant, the more clearly I see the Buddha, and the more I chant, the easier it becomes to let go of the past entirely.
This path of life and death is, for the most part, filled with immense pain. I sincerely hope that my family members can realise this truth as early as possible. I hope they can come to believe in the Buddha and begin chanting Namo Amituofo. By trusting in the Buddha, you can truly help yourselves and finally be free from suffering forever.
I wish for everything to become better and better. Thank you. Namo Amituofo."
