Interview with Dr. Helmut Sohmen (Former Chairman of BW Group)
Consider the span of a human life. How much of your precious time have you already dedicated to the endless pursuits of this world and the satisfaction of desires? We often find ourselves consumed by the satisfaction of desires, chasing after fleeting comforts, and seeking validation in things that cannot last. We are caught in a cycle of wanting and acquiring, yet we rarely pause to consider the ultimate purpose of our existence.
Have you truly had the opportunity to hear the Buddha’s teachings? To know of the of Ultimate Bliss and the boundless of ? This is not merely information; it is a lifeline. Yet, we must ask ourselves: how much time remains for you to hear the , to understand your true self, and to realise your Buddha-nature?
Once you have heard the Dharma, the next step is to cultivate the resolve to practise. Those who can find their true self and vow to save all beings are those whose good roots have finally manifested. However, we must face the reality of our situation: how much of your remaining life can you truly dedicate to diligent practice?
In the process of your practice, you will inevitably encounter many challenges. You must face and overcome the various changes and tests that arise within your body, your mind, and your spirit. These are not merely physical obstacles; they are the manifestations of your karmic history. Do you have enough time left in this life to practise until you have restored the innate functions of your Six Roots, realised your true nature, and reclaimed your true self?
Many practitioners find that their lives come to an end while they are still in the process of purification, having not yet fully realised their true nature. When this happens, they are once again pulled into the cycle of reincarnation. Who can say when, or if, they will have the chance to hear the Buddha’s teachings again? Who can guarantee that they will once more encounter the great teachings of how to reach and become a Buddha, or find the strength to vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss?
When will you again have the chance to meet Namo Amituofo, to be guided by the wisdom of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, or to follow the path set by Practitioner Su? These are the rare conditions that allow you to enter the vast ocean of the Ultimate Vow of Namo Amituofo. It is within this ocean that you can realise your true nature and finally fulfil the great vow to save yourself, save the world, and rescue all suffering beings.
All of these uncertainties and variables, including the impermanence of birth, aging, sickness, and death before you have successfully transformed your , mean that when it comes to entering the Buddha’s gate to practise or offering your support to the Dharma, there is truly no time left for hesitation.
Everything must be done with speed! Do not hesitate, for this is not just about your own liberation; it is about saving yourself and rescuing your connected family members who are waiting for your help. The time to commit is now.
