Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers this compassionate guidance to all practitioners: you must not take the passing of time, even for a single second, lightly. Time is a precious resource, and you must not allow it to slip away in vain. For those who are diligent in their practice, every moment is an opportunity to be utilised for spiritual growth. Indeed, every fleeting second and every present moment holds the potential for a sudden flash of insight—a moment of true .
Furthermore, you must never take a single recitation of the Buddha-name lightly. When you arouse the mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo, you are engaging in a practice of profound significance. Every single utterance of the Buddha-name is supported by the power of the Forty-eight Great Vows of Namo Amituofo. Within each recitation, there resides the majestic power and the boundless merit of Namo Amituofo, whose sole purpose is to save yourself and others, reaching the and finding one's own Buddha nature.
You must also treat the teachings of Namo Amituofo and the lectures provided by Practitioner Su with the utmost seriousness. Do not take a single word of these teachings lightly. Every word and every sentence is a manifestation of the true self-nature. These teachings operate entirely within the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. When you hear them, you gain understanding; when you follow them in your daily life, you are able to break through delusion and attain enlightenment, eventually reaching the state of Awakening.
We must understand the mechanics of our own . The interaction between our senses and the world creates a chain of cause and effect that often leads to suffering:
Because this process leads to the accumulation of , you must learn to restrain your six sense organs. By reducing your unnecessary contact with the external world, you prevent the formation of negative karmic patterns. If you allow yourself to be influenced by impure karma, it will inevitably obstruct your practice. Therefore, you must diligently practise the (Discipline), Concentration and Wisdom to purify your Six Roots and prevent the manifestation of negative karma. Chanting the Buddha-name is the most effective medicine for cultivating these three essential qualities.
Everything outside of your own true nature—the people, the events, and the scenery of this world—is subject to impermanence. These things are constantly changing, appearing and disappearing according to the laws of and the causes and effects. If you rely on these external things for your sense of security, your heart will never find peace. You will remain trapped in a state of constant flux, and your mind will be tossed about by the changing circumstances of life. If your mind follows these external conditions, your practice will not achieve spiritual success.
You must cultivate meditative concentration so that your heart is not moved by external circumstances, but rather, you become the one who transforms the environment. You must look inward, practise self-reflection, and seek the truth within your own heart. Only by engaging in this deep purification and removing the layers of dust and defilement from your mind will you finally reach the time of Awakening and seeing your true nature.
