The Supreme Treasure of the Infinite Life Sutra
Faithfully accepting and practising the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra) is the key to achieving Buddhahood. This sutra is the supreme treasure for all who seek the path of the Buddha. It provides the essential map for the journey toward enlightenment, ensuring that one who follows its guidance will not be led astray.
Understanding the Path of Faith, Acceptance, and Practice
To truly understand what it means to "faithfully accept and practise," we must look at the depth of these three components:
- Faith: This refers to a profound and unwavering belief. It is the belief in the Buddha, the belief in your own original nature, and the belief in the truth spoken within this sutra.
- Acceptance: This means to receive these teachings into your heart. You must allow the wisdom of the Buddha to permeate your being, accepting the truth without doubt or hesitation.
- Practice: This refers to the diligent execution of the teachings. It is not enough to merely read or hear the words; one must actively live them out in every moment of daily life.
The phrase "faithfully accept and practise" is the final instruction given by Shakyamuni Buddha at the conclusion of the forty-eight chapters of this great sutra. It was his final, earnest, and most profound exhortation to all beings who heard his voice.
A Universal Path for All Beings
The beauty of the path is that it is designed to cover all capacities. Whether you are a practitioner of high, middle, or lower spiritual capacity, this method is capable of embracing you. You do not need to master complex Buddhist terminology or deep, philosophical concepts to succeed.
The core of this sutra is simple and direct. It is the practice of: "arouse the Bodhi mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo." If you can faithfully accept and practise this, and if you can keep the name of Namo Amituofo in your heart and on your lips, you will receive all the benefits of this sutra. This leads directly to rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss and the attainment of Buddhahood in a single lifetime.
The of Shakyamuni Buddha
Shakyamuni Buddha spent forty-nine years delivering sentient beings. During this time, he taught many different methods, each tailored to the specific spiritual capacity of the beings he encountered. Many who follow this path are Bodhisattvas who have come to demonstrate the way to Buddhahood for the sake of others. Others are those who have worked hard in past lives but have not yet achieved rebirth. For those who now possess the necessary , , and , this lifetime is the perfect opportunity to complete the journey.
