Where does the spirit go when this life concludes? Does it follow the weight of its accumulated , or does it follow the direction of its deepest vows? For the spirits of ordinary beings, the path is often obscured by confusion. Because their karma is far heavier than their vows, they spend their entire lives trapped within the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, suffering deeply within this endless turning.
You must stop clinging to your attachments. You must cease allowing your personality and ego to dictate your actions. When you act out of ego, you do not only cause harm to other beings; you also inflict profound damage upon yourself. You must cultivate for all beings, for this is also the highest form of compassion you can show to yourself. Remember that you, too, are one of these beings.
To make progress in your practice, you must diligently overcome the various difficulties you face. Whether you are chanting the name of , performing prostrations, or reciting the sutras, these are all essential methods of purification. When you perform these acts with a sincere heart, you are doing so for the benefit of all spirits. As all spirits work together in this practice, they are all equally purified. Through this, you can help resolve the conflicts that bind you to others. By understanding that these illusions are not the ultimate truth, you will eventually be able to change your ways and continue until you reach the state of an awakened being.
To save the world and deliver beings is to act for the sake of all spirits, which is ultimately to act for yourself, as you are one among them. When you chant the name of Namo Amituofo with the vow to seek rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, you hope that all spirits will share this same aspiration. Here at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, we invite all spirits to come forth. Through the practice of , we work for the benefit of all spirits, helping them enter the Western Land of Nature. There, they may listen to sutras and hear the Dharma, make the vow to reach the West, and finally enter the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is a rare and precious opportunity that is difficult to encounter. All spirits should understand this, accept this guidance, and receive the great benefits that follow.
