A pure heart, a new hope
This is a record of an interview with Lin Gusheng, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey and his guidance for his student, Lay Practitioner Yan Fandong. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxi, on August 13, 2021.
Bodhisattva Lin Gusheng speaks:
". I am Lin Gusheng. It brings me such immense to be here in this pure and serene realm. I am filled with profound gratitude, and I must express my deepest thanks to the compassionate Practitioner Su. It was entirely through the help and guidance of Practitioner Su that I was granted this precious opportunity to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. My heart is overflowing with appreciation for this grace.
I never imagined that I would reach this day, and I am truly, deeply happy. My student, Yan Fandong, is a child with a very delicate and sensitive heart. He is incredibly diligent in everything he does, often working himself to the bone with a fierce determination. In the past, when I was still in the human world, I would have praised such dedication. However, looking back now from this vantage point, I want to tell him: do not strive so desperately for the sake of this world. The truly important task, the one thing that matters above all else, is to focus on one's spiritual practice.
I know that even if I say these words to him, he may not be able to fully take them to heart. The primary reason is that his mind is still burdened by worldly attachments. When the heart is filled with worries and worldly concerns, it becomes impossible to engage in genuine, sincere practice. Although I understand that every individual has their own unique Causal Conditions, I simply cannot bear to see him miss out on such a magnificent opportunity. It would be a tragedy of the highest order for him to let this chance slip through his fingers.
Let me share a little more about my life here. Since the moment I was guided upward by Practitioner Su, I have been living a life of profound peace and simplicity. My heart is incredibly pure. I have been working diligently to let go of the past. Through listening to the teachings of the , I have come to realise that everything in the human world is merely an illusion. Only by upholding the Truth, by ensuring one does not commit acts that violate the laws of and cause and effect, and by ultimately achieving liberation from the cycle of rebirth, can one truly address the most important matter of existence.
I am so fortunate to have been brought here! The cycle of rebirth is filled with suffering; it is truly an exhausting and painful journey. I am deeply thankful to my student for the connection we share, and I sincerely hope that he, too, can attain this same wonderful opportunity. I pray that in this very lifetime, he can achieve true liberation.
The human world is a place of great hardship, and one must learn to let go. The most significant event in one's life is not found in the success of a career, nor is it found in the constant maintenance of the physical body. I only understand now that the true priority is to recognise the direction of liberation. When the direction is correct, and when one has the strength to walk that path, that is the most important thing of all.
I am now departing for the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I hope that all my relatives and friends who read this message will know that I am doing very well, and I am here waiting for all of you. Namo Amituofo."
