Igniting the Light of Hope
Teachings from Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju
Third Session of the 2019 Global Disaster Mitigation and Blessing Dharma Assembly
The Shadows of the Present Age
Hope is the essential flame that guides the practitioner through the darkness of the mundane world. In this current era, we observe a decline in the vitality of the Buddha’s teachings. This occurs because many practitioners have become tethered to external environments and are pulled by the heavy weight of their own . They have lost sight of their true direction, unable to perceive the hope that lies within themselves or in the future.
When one forgets their identity as a disciple of the Buddha, they lose sight of their sacred mission: to save all beings from suffering, to guide them toward rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss, and to ensure the continuity of the Buddha’s teachings. Consequently, many feel a sense of powerlessness, drifting into distraction and indulgence. Under these circumstances, the emergence of new monastic strength has become increasingly fragile.
A New Dawn at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
However, we must look to where the light still burns brightly. At Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, under the compassionate guidance and tireless cultivation of Practitioner Su, a remarkable transformation is taking place. Through the active participation and sincere dedication of the fourfold assembly of disciples, we are witnessing the emergence of six new Bhikshus and one Bhikshuni. This is a development that brings profound to the entire Realm.
These new monastic practitioners represent a fresh source of vitality. They are like a clear, flowing spring injected into the heart of the Pure Land path, bringing with them a renewed sense of hope and a vibrant new atmosphere. Their commitment serves as a beacon, reminding us all that the path to liberation remains open and accessible to those who are willing to dedicate their lives to the Truth.
A Unified Path to
It is my sincere hope that all of you—whether you are a monastic, a lay practitioner, or a dedicated volunteer—can work together with one heart and one mind. Each of you possesses unique talents and strengths; you must strive to fulfil your respective roles with utmost sincerity. By leveraging your individual gifts, you can support one another on the journey toward the Western Pure Land.
Together, you must work to leave the cycle of rebirth and the suffering of karma behind. Your goal is to reach Awakening as soon as possible. When you achieve this, you will naturally emit a light of wisdom that illuminates not only your own path but also the paths of those around you. By saving yourselves and saving others, you will ensure a smooth and successful rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
