The for the Journey Home
In the practice of the school, the Three Provisions—Faith, Vows, and Practice—are the essential requirements for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Each of these provisions is vital for your spiritual journey. Vows serve as a crucial indicator, acting as a compass that guides the direction of your practice.
Faith in Namo Amituofo is the primary reason that these vows arise within your heart. Because you believe in the of Namo Amituofo and in the existence of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, you naturally develop the aspiration to learn from the Buddha, to chant Buddha's name, and to seek rebirth in that sacred realm. Through the support of the Buddha’s , you can attain achievements equal to those of Namo Amituofo, and perhaps even surpass them, just as the blue dye is extracted from the indigo plant but is bluer than the plant itself.
Aligning with the Infinite Life Sutra
You should base your vows on the teachings found in the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra), and you must accept and follow them with your whole heart. This is the path to attaining Buddhahood. You are encouraged to make great vows just as Namo Amituofo did, and to be fiercely diligent in your efforts to see your true self, thereby attaining liberation and true freedom.
It is your responsibility to help all beings who have a karmic connection with you to leave suffering behind and escape the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death. You can do this by introducing them to Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, helping them to joyfully chant Buddha's name and make their own vows to seek rebirth in that realm.
The Power of Diligent Practice
To succeed, you must be diligent in your practice. You should strive to attain the , which is the fundamental skill required for meditative concentration and for ensuring your rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. As you work to change your personality traits and maintain your diligence, you will receive the Buddha’s blessings.
These blessings will help you overcome the interference of demon crowds and the obstacles presented by your . Through constant purification, you will attain a pure heart and rediscover your true self.
The Transformation Through
Your daily practice of prostrations, chanting Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras is essential for dissolving your and reducing your transgressions. When you bow before the Buddha, Namo Amituofo constantly emits His light. This light leads the karmic creditors who manifest during your prostrations into the Buddha-light, allowing the beings residing within your body to resolve their grievances and leave suffering behind. It is important to understand that your vows must be implemented through your actions; only then will you see your wishes fulfilled.
