Namo Amituofo states: The term " of Non-Birth" refers to the state of being far removed from the cycle of birth and death. To realise this Dharma is to attain a state that is neither born nor destroyed, thereby escaping the cycle of rebirth and successfully rediscovering one's true nature. This is not a mystical or unattainable concept; rather, it is a truth that has always existed within you.
Every being possesses this true nature, yet we remain unable to realise it due to the persistent influence of delusion, discrimination, and attachment. To realise the Dharma of Non-Birth, you must let go of these three obstacles. Once they are relinquished, your true nature will naturally manifest.
For countless lifetimes, beings have wandered in the long, dark night of ignorance. We remain trapped in a state of delusion, which is fuelled by our constant discrimination and attachment. These delusions cause our minds to become restless and unsettled. When our thoughts fluctuate and negative intentions arise, we inadvertently attract the karmic consequences of our past actions. This leads to an endless cycle of suffering, making it impossible to escape the cycle of rebirth on our own.
Those who have realised the Dharma of Non-Birth are those who have successfully rediscovered their true nature. They have departed from the ocean of and are no longer bound by the cycle of rebirth. They have transformed their karma, meaning they are no longer constrained by its heavy chains, and they have achieved the state of an awakened being. Such individuals possess in life and death. They are no longer dictated by karmic forces; instead, they observe Causal Conditions and respond to the needs of others with wisdom and .
These awakened beings, whether they are Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, manifest in this world or others, appearing in any of the six realms of existence as needed. They follow the flow of Causal Conditions: where conditions gather, they appear; where conditions dissipate, they depart. For those who have attained this freedom, even the phenomena of birth and death are experienced with total ease and detachment.
As a practitioner, your goal is to reach this state of being an awakened being, which allows you to transcend the three realms of existence. In the Infinite Life Sutra (The Buddha Speaks the , Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Sutra), the Buddha repeatedly reminds us that this text is the supreme guide for attaining Buddhahood and realising one's true nature. For those who wish to be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss, the path is clear: you must "arouse the Bodhi mind and single-mindedly recite Namo Amituofo."
This practice is the most direct method to help you rediscover your true nature. By chanting one Buddha's name to the end, you can realise the Dharma of Non-Birth, attain the universal state of deep peace and wisdom, and master all profound teachings. All of these achievements are contained within the six-character name of Namo Amituofo.
Beyond receiving the support of the Buddha’s power of merit and majestic power, as you continue your practice, your own true nature will become increasingly apparent. The infinite wisdom, virtues, and auspicious characteristics inherent in your true self will manifest. The compassionate support of Namo Amituofo is not only a tremendous encouragement but also a direct source of assistance for your journey.
