Rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss — Wu Hanqin (Husband of Li Leyu)

Lay Practitioner Wu Hanqin:

Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su are truly so compassionate. I am now in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, being bathed in Buddha light, performing prostrations, and chanting the Buddha’s name; my heart is much calmer. When I was in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, I actually felt much purer, but I did not expect the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss to be even purer. Because here, everyone is equal, and there is nothing that makes me think of the past. I have let go of all the past completely. Now that Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su have called upon me to share my experience, I will certainly speak from my heart, as a way to provide closure for my family and the world!

I am grateful for the compassion of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, and I am grateful to my wife for helping me arrange to participate in the Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, which gave me the opportunity to be led by the Buddha to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Life passes in a flash of a few decades; it turns out that I had been living in a daze, as if I could not control myself, sometimes clear-headed, sometimes confused. Reflecting on everything, I do not seem to have many deep impressions. I seem to have forgotten what it felt like to have a body, and I have realised that what the Buddha said is very true: this body is the source of all sensations. With this body, one cannot practise to realise one's true nature, because there are too many sensations on the body that bind us. I am an example of this; in fact, almost everyone is the same.

When I was in the human world, I always trusted all the sensations of the body, doing whatever I wanted and going wherever I wanted. In fact, none of this was under my own control; it was all internal sensations, things that beings made me do. However, I do not mean to blame all the mistakes I made on these beings. There are many beings on the body; these are beings with whom we have had karmic affinity throughout our many lives, and they are naturally within us. This is a principle I learned in the Western Land of Dharma Nature. I also know that because I did not change my personality and did not receive true education from a young age, especially lacking Buddhist education on the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, I slowly became unable to control myself and was completely controlled by these beings.

Now that I see this clearly, I realise how fortunate I am to have encountered the Buddha, to have escaped that dark space, and to have come to a world of light; that is truly a great blessing. I am very grateful for the experience of coming to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss and the Western Land of Dharma Nature, and I am also grateful to my wife for signing me up for the Dharma Assembly. I can now see my past throughout my many lives, and I know this is the guidance of Buddhist affinity. Although our time together in the past had its ups and downs—that is just how life is—having gone through this journey, I have actually let it all go; transforming emotional entanglements into Dharma affinity is the best thing possible.

I hope you will be diligent in your practice and study of the Buddha’s teachings; with your Wisdom (Prajna), you will surely achieve success. Follow the Buddha well, listen to sutras and hear the Dharma often, and slowly absorb the Buddha’s words of Namo Amituofo and everything Practitioner Su has said, turning them into nourishment for your practice and truly applying them in your daily life. In the future, you will be able to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss with ease; what a wonderful thing that is! I have confidence in you, and I have confidence in many others as well. I know that while it is not easy to propagate the Buddha’s teachings in the world, it can certainly be done. I see it very clearly from here, and I am very happy to see the growth of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.

My heart is very satisfied now, because I know that the temple truly has Namo Amituofo, and there is also Practitioner Su who has realised his true nature and attained Buddhahood; this gives me great peace of mind. I think this must be made known to people all over the world, so they truly know that the Buddha has come to the world to save everyone, so that they do not have to suffer.

Having said so much, I have not yet mentioned my past experience. I used to love drinking alcohol, and later I suffered from liver cancer, which led to my departure from the human world. From this, we can see that the Precepts are truly important; there is a great difference in the path after death between those who keep the Precepts and those who do not. After I died, I became a drunkard ghost. Although it was not as painful as suffering in the hells, I always felt that life was worse than death, as if I were constantly doing the same thing, and my heart always felt suppressed. Now that I have seen the true world of light, I cherish this Causal Condition all the more.

Finally, I sincerely express my gratitude once again to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, and I am also grateful to all my family members and my wife.
