The Eternal Nature of the Spirit
The life of the spirit is without beginning or end. Throughout your many lives, regardless of the space or time you have occupied, your spirit has persisted. Whether you have possessed a physical body or existed in a formless state, and regardless of the various appearances, names, or roles you have assumed, every action, word, and thought you have generated remains inextricably linked to your spirit. These are all clearly recorded within your , the storehouse that preserves every karmic seed you have ever sown.
Within the vast ocean of and the cycle of rebirth, these records have led to countless interactions. You have spent lifetimes seeking to balance accounts, repaying debts, or settling grievances with others. Yet, in this endless cycle, you will find that suffering far outweighs happiness, and negative actions far outweigh goodness. The primary cause of this cycle is the concept of —the act of living for the sake of the ego and the attachment to the existence of the physical body. This is the fundamental reason why beings remain trapped in the cycle of rebirth, unable to find a way out of their endless suffering.
The Universal Principle of Cause and Effect
The karma that beings create follows them through life after life. As you move through the cycle of birth and death, you encounter different conditions and timings that bring forth different karmic fruits. This is the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way: good causes yield good results, and negative causes yield negative results. When negative karma manifests, it brings forth suffering—suffering of , suffering of the mind, and suffering of the spirit.
Most beings do not understand the karma they have created in the past. When you are in the midst of suffering, if you can understand the laws of karma and cause and effect, you must accept and face these realities with courage. You must resolve to stop creating further negative karma. Furthermore, you must be diligent in your practice to repent and eradicate your karmic obstacles. By actively seeking to resolve conflicts with the beings currently present in your life, you will find that the pain of illness and the burdens of age can be significantly lessened or even fully resolved.
The Power of Chanting
The swiftest method for resolving these conflicts is to chant Namo Amituofo. By chanting the Buddha's name and making a sincere vow to be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss, you align yourself with the highest path of liberation. When you chant with a sincere and focused heart, you receive the of the Buddha. Relying on the Buddha's majestic power and merit, you can help soften the hearts of those who have come to seek repayment or revenge, transforming their resentment into peace.
If your lifespan has reached its end, your sincere chanting will allow you to be led by Namo Amituofo to the Western Pure Land. If your lifespan has not yet reached its end, the pain of illness and the suffering of the body will gradually improve, eventually leading you away from pain and back to a state of inner peace and tranquility.

The Shortcut to Buddhahood
Fundamentally, your daily practice—which includes disciplined prostrations, chanting the Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras—is an effective and continuous method for clearing these obstacles. There is no past, and there is no future; there is only the present moment. If you chant Namo Amituofo all the way, you are simultaneously practising the Three Learnings of , Samadhi, and Wisdom and the Six Paramitas. This is the most convenient of all convenient methods, the true shortcut to attaining Buddhahood.
I urge the fourfold assembly and all beings to cherish this opportunity and grasp it firmly.
