The Azure Sky: A Reflection on Purity
Teachings from Namo Amituofo
Recorded on October 29, 2023

Teachings from Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
The azure sky above us is transparent and clear, vast like the deep ocean and piercing like a bright, steady gaze. This clarity is not accidental. It exists because the very atmosphere has been purified. The dust, the microscopic particles, the floating molecules, and even the wandering spirits and sentient beings with karmic affinity who once drifted aimlessly in the air have now found a place of rest.
The Clarity of the Heavens
Because these beings have been settled, they no longer wander in confusion, tossed about by the winds of . They are no longer forced to drift east or west, lost in the cycle of being reincarnated. Even the wind that blows into our sanctuary is now gentle, for we no longer fear that it carries the heavy dust of suffering that might stain this beautiful, azure sky.
At Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, the sky remains pristine because of the constant, tireless work of Practitioner Su. Through the practice of , the following transformations occur:
- Spirits residing in the air are guided into the Western Land of Nature within our temple. The dust and particles that cloud our vision are stripped of their coarse outer layers, revealing their original, human-like forms. These beings, filled with surprise and , are then safely escorted to the Western Land of Dharma Nature.Even the rainbow fairies that appear in the sky after a light rain are gathered and sent to the Western Land of Dharma Nature, where they are given the precious opportunity to make vows and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Because these spirits have finally found their true home, we are blessed to witness a sky of such profound transparency. When the Buddha-light illuminates the entire land, the azure blue of the heavens is infused with a brilliant, golden radiance that shines across the horizon.
A Conversation in the Garden
Within the Hsiang Kuang gardens, if one listens closely, one can hear the flowers whispering to the birds that rest upon the earth. A flower might murmur, "The sky is so blue and beautiful today!" To which a bird replies, "I am an early riser; the sky is most beautiful in the early morning light."
The flower, perhaps having slept soundly through the dawn, asks with curiosity, "I was fast asleep then. Tell me, how beautiful was it?" The bird describes the scene with wonder:
- From the sky above the Amituofo Village, at the very junction where the earth meets the heavens, the horizon glows with a brilliant, golden light. As one looks higher, the sky transitions into a soft, delicate pink.Further up, it shifts into a gentle, ethereal purple. Finally, at the highest point, it transforms into a deep, transparent blue.Within that golden expanse, one can see rays of light scattering in every direction.
The bird concludes, "It is the most beautiful sky I have ever seen, and that is why I sing with such joy." Inspired by this, the flowers resolve to wake before the sun rises, so they too might witness the glory of the morning sky. The grass and the great trees nearby nod in agreement, sharing in this collective joy.
The Golden Light of Namo Amituofo
In that moment, a compassionate voice resonates through the air, speaking to all the children of the Buddha: "My children, when you see such a magnificent scene, know that the golden light of the sky contains the very presence of Namo Amituofo. You may chant Buddha's name, 'Namo Amituofo, Namo Amituofo,' continuously. If you do so, the Buddha will open the space for you and lead all those who chant into the bright, luminous Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."
Upon hearing these words, all beings present feel an immense sense of joy. Regardless of their past, at this very moment, Namo Amituofo has planted the seed of the Buddha-name into their ear-roots. Because of this connection, they will all eventually find their way out of the cycle of being reincarnated and be saved.
