The Bright Heart

The Inherent Radiance of the True Self

Words of Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe, on the nineteenth of October, 2024.

When you purify your heart until it reaches a state of absolute clarity, free from all stains, the Bright Heart will naturally manifest. In that moment, you will find yourself filled with profound peace and Dharma joy. This Bright Heart is not something you need to acquire from the outside; it is a fundamental quality that every sentient being possesses.

The Journey Through the Six Realms

Regardless of where you find yourself within the six realms of rebirth, this Bright Heart has never truly vanished. Consider the various paths a soul may take:

• In the hells, where one endures intense suffering and retribution.
• In the ghost realm, where one drifts through days of confusion and darkness.
• In the animal realm, taking the forms of pigs, cattle, chickens, ducks, fish, insects, or the smallest crawling creatures.
• In the heavenly realms, where one enjoys temporary blessings and comforts.
• In the human world, where one experiences the fleeting and uncertain nature of life.
• In the asura realm, where one spends time indulging in pleasures while harbouring deep-seated anger.

Even in these diverse states of existence, the Bright Heart remains within you. Why, then, is it so difficult to see? It is because this heart has been covered up by the seven emotions and the Five Desires, obscured by layers of dust that prevent its light from shining through.

The Process of Purification

Although the Bright Heart is covered, its luminosity has not diminished in the slightest. It remains as brilliant as ever. As long as you diligently wash away and remove these various stains, your Bright Heart will naturally emerge, shining with a radiance that is even comparable to the light of Namo Amituofo.

At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the fourfold assembly of disciples is currently engaged in the vital work of purification. We are peeling away, layer by layer, the dust and stains that have accumulated over thousands of millions of years—eons upon eons of karmic accumulation. You must be active and diligent in this purification process; do not allow these stains to scatter and drift, for they are not merely abstract concepts.

Compassion for Karmic Creditors

These stains are, in truth, sentient beings from the six realms of rebirth. They have become these stains because they created the negative causes that led to these negative consequences. Now, as they cover your heart, they are the sentient beings with karmic affinity who have come to you.

During your process of purification, you must gently invite these beings to leave. You may do this by chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, relying on the majestic power of the Buddha. Through this practice, you help these beings restore their original human forms. Invite them to the Western Land of Dharma Nature, where they may find a place of rest upon a lotus seat. From there, they will have the opportunity to make their own vows, continue chanting the name of Namo Amituofo, and eventually reach the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss to become a Buddha.

By helping them in this way, you simultaneously clear the path for your own Bright Heart to manifest, allowing you to finally see your true self.
