The Wisdom of Universal Equality

The wisdom of the Buddha is one of perfect equality. From this enlightened perspective, Namo Amituofo views all beings as Buddhas, for every single sentient being possesses the inherent Buddha-nature. This nature is pure, perfect, and complete, yet it remains obscured by the veils of our own making. Because we are lost in the cycle of rebirth, we have forgotten our original state. Everything we see, hear, and experience in this world enters our and transforms into . We become adrift in a vast ocean of karmic consequences, finding it incredibly difficult to escape. However, once this Buddha-nature is revealed, all distinctions of high and low vanish. One then views all beings with the same profound equality that the Buddha possesses.

The Ocean of Karmic Entanglement

The -nature of the Buddha pervades the entire Dharma-realm and empty space. Beings, too, fill the vastness of the Dharma Realm. Why, then, do we perceive such a staggering variety of forms, appearances, and physical bodies among sentient beings? This diversity arises solely because of the differences in our hearts. It is our hearts that create the six realms of existence and the ten directions. Because the hearts of sentient beings are unstable and lack meditative concentration, they are constantly shifting. Our state of mind changes continuously based on the influence of:

  • Time:
  • The fleeting nature of our lives and the passage of eras.Space:
  • The physical environments and locations we inhabit.Environment: The external conditions and social circumstances that surround us.

Because our hearts are so easily swayed by these external factors, we find ourselves unable to escape the cycle of rebirth and struggle to become the true master of our own lives.

The Eternal Presence of the True Self

Even though we may feel lost, the true master of every being—our original nature—has always existed. It has never disappeared, nor has it ever diminished in its brilliance. The fundamental difference between a Buddha and a sentient being lies entirely in whether this true self and Buddha-nature are revealed and allowed to take charge. If we engage in diligent practice, we can begin to uncover the true self that has been covered by confusion and karma. By removing the stains of defilement and clearing away the dust of our attachments, we can ensure that not a single trace of impurity remains. When this is achieved, the true self is revealed, and one attains the state of realising one's true nature and attaining Buddhahood.

The Path from Confusion to

All Buddhas walk the same path. A Buddha possesses no heart of ego and has attained the state of . Because of this, a Buddha can manifest in infinite forms and embrace all things in the universe. In contrast, sentient beings are burdened by a strong sense of self and deep-seated ego-attachment. We create all manner of karma for the sake of this physical body, further entrenching ourselves in suffering. To follow the Buddha's path, one must learn to view all beings with the same equality that the Buddha does. This means:

  • Refusing to dwell on the faults, shortcomings, or deficiencies of others.Ceasing to place one's own ego at the centre of importance or value.Seeing every being as a Buddha, treating them with the utmost respect and love.

To live in this way is to embody the heart of the Buddha. By letting go of the ego and embracing the equality of all life, you move closer to the of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo.
