The Essence of Continuous Chanting

Words of Namo Amituofo:

When you truly bring the Buddha into your heart, you will find that your mind is filled only with the presence of Namo Amituofo. There is no room for other thoughts. At this stage, your heart is pure and filled with Goodness, free from any impurities. The Buddha-name becomes a continuous, dense flow, much like a spring that emerges naturally and ceaselessly from the depths of your being.

the Buddha Nature Within

When you chant the Buddha-name with such sincerity, you are able to awaken the Buddha nature within you. In that moment, your true self becomes the master of your body and mind. This true self, also known as your original nature or Buddha-nature, has been covered up for accumulated lifetimes by layer upon layer of thick dust and filth.

Clearing the Layers of Karmic Filth

What exactly is this dust and filth that obscures your true nature? It consists of the following:

  • Your stubborn attachments to your own personality. The negative and harmful habits you have cultivated over time. The selfish thoughts and behaviours that prioritise your own desires. The rigid viewpoints that you refuse to let others challenge or touch.

Many extremely subtle thoughts that are not in sync with your true self are also forms of this filth. Any thought or action that harms others is fundamentally contrary to your true nature. This is why, no matter how wealthy or prosperous your life may seem, you often feel a sense of unease or lack. You may seek satisfaction in the outside world, but such pleasures are only temporary. Once they fade, you are left with an even deeper sense of anxiety.

Finding Permanent Peace in the Buddha-Name

Where can you find permanent peace of heart? At this very moment, please lift up the Buddha-name: Namo Amituofo. Hold onto this six-character name of . Chant it continuously, one phrase after another, in a dense and unbroken stream. Chant until your unease is completely eliminated and leaves no trace. Chant until your heart is at peace and filled with . Chant until your entire body is filled with energy.

Continue until you reach the state of chanting without chanting, and not chanting while still chanting. Chant until your body and mind can be at ease in any situation. No matter what circumstances you face, your heart will remain in meditative concentration, unmoved and steady. When the Buddha-name flows continuously without interruption, you are truly a practitioner of the path.
